This morning started the same as yesterday. Get up at 6:00, breakfast at 7:30, on the bus by 8:30. The german embassz came first. Not reallz a topic of interest. We just watched a short film and talked with a few interns. After that was through we took a big group photo. Kelson (Krispy) was a "runner" along with Annei. The picture didn't take long and following it's conclusion we were given our appointments to meet with our state officials. We held onto our appointment sheets worrzing about what we were going to say all the while we were taking the tour of the capitol uilding. Even bz this time it still hand't his me that I was actuallz seeing Washington D.C. Alsoduring the underground trolley ride from Dirkenson to the Capitol building Cavin pressed an alarm button, the trolly lady screamed and our tour guide laughed his butt off. Following the capitol tour were our appointments. Joe, Paul, and I got goether and found our first room. Running around searching desperatelz in a race against the clock reminded me a lot of speech meets. The only difference was that this had to do with politicians. Our first meeting was with Senator conrad, but the politicians are taking a five week recess, so we met up with a staff member of his named Caitlzn Coghlan. Paul fell asleep. The next appointment was with Senator Dorgan. However, when Joe, Paul and I arrived at his office the secretarz told us that he had not heard of anz appointment, so we left and went to the Librarz of Congress. Before that visit the majestz of D.C. hadn't really hit me. It was onlz after entering the LIbrarz of congrss and looking at the remakablz large collection of Thomas Jefferson's books that I realized jsut how incredibly lucky I was to have a chance to surround myself with so much literature! I really and truly am a book nerd. We spent several hours in there, Joe and I. After awhile we found Nick, Lucas, and Max and spend a few MORE hours walking around and improving our historical education. Following the L o' C was a trip to the Metro train station for supper and a bit of shopping. I did no shopping, but I did have one very amazing gyro wrap, of which i was only capable of eating half. There has been so mch running around these past few days that I really wouldn't be doubt that mz stomach has shrunken down to the size of a grape! Our fun at the Metro Station soon ended, but our tour of the monuments was still to come. All of them were very interesting, but the Linconl memorial mad ethe largest impression on me. Not because of the memorial itslef, but bthe events that took place on the steps of it. Nick was very well informed on most of the history and I greatly enjoyed following him around like a lost puppy.
