The Job

Last week we spent every morning in the school, cleaning, organizing, and planning. I met some co-workers: Miss Maria who will be teaching part of the classes taught in Spanish; Miss Fatima, the girl who knows everything there is to know about everything at the school; and Miss Marina, one of the Secretaries. They are all really nice ladies and I am glad to be working with them.

I learned more about what sort of job I´ll be doing. As the schedule stands, I´ll be teaching Reading and Spelling to 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades, in English. I am one of the two English teachers at the school, so all my classes are taught in English. Also I will be teaching Science for the 3rd grade. That amounts to 7 or 8 classes a day, quite a heavy load.

Thankfully it is all U.S. curriculum, which I am used to. You just do what the book tells you to and ´everything will be ok´. :-) The classes will be 40 minutes long, starting at 7:00 in the morning and going to 1:40 in the afternoon. I will also be tutoring some children after school until 2:30.

In the afternoons and on the weekends I would like to spend about an hour in the Pulperia, the little store front they have in the house. It is a great aid to my Spanish if I can ever figure out what people are asking for. After the words dame....or, me da....I am always lost. The word Pepsi even sounds foreign, people always say Peps. But I have almost successfully learned the Lempira (money), can make proper change and about half the time I guess right when people ask for something.

That is an overview of the job; school starts the 20th and I will try to give updates as things get into full swing.

Please pray that I will have time to plan for all the classes and that I would be able to communicate clearly to some children who are new and do not know much English. Also pray that I would be able to get involved with the local Baptist church.

Thanks for all your notes and emails. Blessings! - Anna

Praying for you!
Thinking of you and praying for you! Hope all goes well! It's sounds like such fun...wish I could be a teacher, but I'm not much for actually "instructing" people. :) Take care and stay safe!
