We left adventure packed Swakopmund a couple days ago and it was awesome. Originally I wanted to do the sandboarding but the idea of walking up the dunes after every ride down wasn't too appealing for most of the group. So most of us opted for the quadbiking and it was amazing! We did a 2 hour run through the Namib desert (oldest desert in the world). The endless dunes and Atlantic coast made for amazing scenery. Some of the group went skydiving and I was really tempted to join them but I decided to save the money (already did it in Jersey anyway).

After Swakopmund, we stayed in a place called Spitzkoppe. I loosely use the word "place" here because it was just a bush camp literally in the middle of nowhere. We ended up sleeping in a cave that night because it was actually a lot warmer than our tents. Steve, one of the Americans from my group, went to use the bathroom and saw some sort of a spotted cat outside the cave. No one got attacked though. By the way, the stars are unbelievable around here. I've never been interested in astronomy but it's neat to look up anytime of the night and see the Southern Cross to figure out which way is south.

Next we stayed at another bush camp and visited the himba tribe. It is crazy how different cultures can be. I have limited time and I can't really explain it anyway so you'll have to wait for the pictures to see what I mean. Really, really strange but it was a worthwhile visit. The kids were fun to play with too.

Next we went to Etosha, which is a massive game park near the Angola border. We went on a couple game drives and spent the nights drinking by the water hole near the campsite. It's so surreal to just sit there drinking and then a herd of elephants come in and chase springboks out of there. We saw some black rhinos, tons of springbok, kudu, giraffes and elephants too. On one of the game drives, we saw a lion. It was enormous! After a while it stood up for about 10 minutes and just roared over and over. I can't explain just how intense the roar was. They say the ground can vibrate up to 10 meters away from the lion. I believe it. So, up to now, I've seen 3 of the big 5 (lion, black rhino, elephant). I still have to see the leapard and buffalo.

Tonight we're going out to celebrate Canadian Rachel's last night and tomorrow we head off to Botswana!! Everything else is great. I'm running out of time and I know a lot of you are asking for pictures. I'm in Africa though. I'll have them up as soon as I can though. I promise you will not be disappointed.
