Hello everyone, welcome to Lisa and Martyn's last ever blog....................
Well we arrived in Hanoi after a very uncomfortable 20 hour ( meant to be 17!) bus ride all the way up from Hoi An. Got a hotel sorted in the Old Quarter, which is crazy its small and cramped and so so busy with motor bikes, cyclos and all the wee old ladies selling their chicken heads etc on the street - its great if a bit smelly! Hanoi is really easy to get around everything is in walking distant that we needed, and there is a great big lake right in the centre thats lovely. So first things first we got our trip to Halong Bay booked, then we ate in the best vegetarian restaurant ever, it was a relief to be wondering if there was some starange animal in my spring rolls! Then of course we got statred on the Tiger beers, had a great night out and it was so funny we had not had a cyclo ride yet so we thought we would give it a blast and in our drunken state found the first one we could see and had him cycle us about,
but at one point he had to push us, think maybe we have been eating far too much poor man, Martyn gave him all the money in his pocket we felt so bad.
The next day once I got Martyn out of bed we had a great time, walking the streets of Old Quarter down to the French Quarter, which is ever so posh with Louis Viutton and Cartier shops. We then walked to Ho Lao Prison which was dubbed by American POW's the "Hanoi Hilton" in the 60's. Needles to say it is closed now and is a museum, but it was really good if, as usual very biased toward the Vietnemese, you would think it had been a holiday camp they way they depicted it!! Had a quiet night that night as we were off to Halong bay for 2 days and 1 night the next day.
So on Thursday we got picked up at 8am and were headed for Halong City to get on our "luxury" junk boat to go on our 2 day/ 1 night cruise on Halong Bay. We were not disappointed by the word luxury, the boat was beautiful well worth the
extra few dollars to get a good one. There were 16 people on including us it was a great mix of people, a Kiwi family, a lady and her 2 teenagers from Melbourne and 2 girls from Sydney. Our room was lovely, one of the nicest bathrooms we have had in a while! Halong Bay itself was gorgeous so lovely cruising around and taking it all in. The food was amazing, we got to eat so much seafood that we would never in a million years of tried ourselves, so much fun, and the boat had a well stocked bear fridge and a karoke DVD - all you need really! We got to go swimming through caves, walking through caves and kayaking, which was fun but I really just let Martyn do all the work on that one! It was a fantastic trip and hadso much fun, perfect end to Vietnam.
We went back to Hanoi after the boat on Friday and we were meant to stay in the hotel we had stayed at before as we had left our bags there but he said they wre full mmm I was a little worried as we had already paid
for the room, but he took us to his friends (shock!) which is nicer and closer to the main bits we like so its all good! So our last night in Vietnam we ate lots and shopped lots then got an early night to get ready for flying back to Bangkok on sunday.
So we got our AirAsia flight with out much stress except we had to pay because our bags were 20kg's each!! Im amazed I have been carrying it about so easily. Arrived in sunny Bangkok at 4pm and got back to Khao San Rd as per usual and booked into a hotel. Our credit card got swallowed which was not very good but we can only be greteful that it happened with only 2 days till home, silly ATMS. So with my stress at this we quite promtly made for the 7 Eleven for some Chang and then went out and drunk buckets galore it was great! Had a great night out as we always do in Bangkok, just cant believe it was the last one of the trip.
So thats it all over, we are flying home tonight, the last 6 months have went
so fast but at the same time he seems like so long since we were at home. We have had a great time, seen so much and done so much had a lot of laughs and of course the odd crabitness (me not Martyn!) And of course we got engaged so that just made it all perfect, but thats it all over but its ok we have thousands of pictures to remember every minute! So this is the last blog it will feel funny not telling anyone whos interested what we are doing with ourselves, thank you everyone for reading it and once I am home I will probably put more pictures on starting from the beginning if anyone is interested.
So goodbye its been a pleasure, Lots of Love Lisa and Martyn xxxx
