We awoke to a glorious sunny Sabbath day and had a very lazy start after some bible study. After lunch we decided to head out into the lagoon for some snorkeling, this time heading further out to the reef as apparently it’s quite shallow there and the fish are supposedly very good. As we donned our masks and fins, a lady a few bungalows down came towards us and said she would show us a good place to snorkel. She was from Sheffield, one of the few other Brit’s on the island.

Before we even had time to put our masks and fins on she was off like a shot, so hurriedly we threw ours on and swam after her. She was setting a good pace and so by the time we made it to the reef we were a bit puffed from travelling at torpedo speed for such a long distance! Once there she left us and swam off on her own while we demisted our masks and then started our way around the coral observing all the fish. The visibility wasn’t great, the tide was coming in and began to churn up the sand, and for some reason both our masks kept getting fogged even with spit, but we were still able to see the fish.

As we were swimming around, Liisa was about to swim in-between two big pieces of coral but in the last moment she hastily backed up as she spotted a huge stingray lying in wait covered in sand with it’s tail exposed and one beady eye watching her! Flash backs to Steve Irwin’s ‘The Crocodile Hunter’ death by stingray came flashing back and we backed off swiftly before it could decided it liked the look of us! After our encounter with the stingray we were more cautious where we were swimming and over what we were swimming, particularly as we were only in about four feet of water. Due to the poor visibility and our little ‘stingray surprise’ we decided to swim back to shore as we did not wish to happen upon any others, and once back at the surf the British lady said she nearly swam over another one!

Before dinner we headed to reception to post some blogs and then to dinner. Our waiter was back and so we were happy at least he’d get the drinks orders correct! With dinner over we took a walk on the beach to an old tree stump and passed the time away doing a photo shoot! Vogue, you haven’t seen anything yet!!!

We do have a fish chart for the Maldives but forgot to bring it so you will have to make do with our simplistic naming!
