We took the train and ferry from Hiroshima today to the lovely Miyajima Island. A big shinto shrine to visit with its tori gate floating in the sea to greet us. We then enjoyed a cable car ride up Mt Nisen(?) to see wonderful views of the Inland Sea that would have been so much better with out the smog!!! Then a very steep walk back to the township down what must have been 2000 steps. Lots of small temples and shrines about the island. Tonight Inge and Rodney have headed off alone as I type this, while I enjoyed trying to converse with some locals in a sushi bar. Not a big sushi eater but this was super fresh. Eating out is very reasonably priced here if you are careful. Around $7-12 for a good main course. All in all a great day with terrific warm weather. People are very friendly and polite but speak little English. Lots of bikes everywhere with hardly a bike lock in sight.
