So, how do you measure success in Peace Corps terms? One dog at a time. Yes, I have had some crazy dog experiences here in Ecuador - some so bad that I have second-guessed my love of man´s best friend. However, this morning was a good dog morning.

As I was walking to work I noticed the dog that lives around the block barking at a passer-by in front of me. This dog has barked at me and nipped my heels for 6 months. I thought I had made a break through a month ago when I was sitting at the bus stop right by his house eating a pb&j sandwich. He obviously smelled food and came up to me slowly. I tore off a piece of my sandwich and offered it to him. He sniffed it and then walked way. The next day he was back to his barking ways.

Anyhow, today as I saw him barking at the person in front of me - I thought about crossing the street to avoid him, but something made me stay on the same side. As I approached I called him over to me in a gentle voice - I said something like - ven aquí perocito (come here pup). He put his tail down slowly crept over and let me pat his head. As I turned away, he followed me for a block looking for more affection.

So, today marked a change in my PC experience - I have convinced one more dog that gringos are to be trusted allies.

Peace,
Jeremy

Going green
Hey Jeremy, havent heard from ya in a while, havent posted in forever. Hope everything's going well down south, i saw the new Indiana Jones movie and it had this scene with these killer aunts that eat some dude, pretty sweet, but one more thing for you to avoid. I just thought i should tell you and Susan that i've started to make Auntie's house green. Besides the old cistern water system, i've started recycling everything and taking it over to uncle al's on saturdays to deposit- paper, plastic, metal and glass. I also got a bike recently, i've been riding that everywhere to avoid $4 a gallon gas. Take Care! Jeff

Maybe you should make a movie about brining new kinds of allies over to the US views. I have followed along with your dog adventures and I will be curious to see how you view this overall! love s
