I arrived in Darjeeling yesterday after a hectic night at the train station in Kolkata, my train didn't leave until 11:40 but I got there at 10 to avoid higher taxi fees late at night. It wasn't bad sleeping on the overnight train. Then I took a cycle rickshaw into Siliguri from the train station to get a shared jeep for a very bumpy but beautiul 4 hour ride up to Darjeeling. It is very nice here, especially compared to the streets of Calcutta. Its basically rainforest area, similar to the rainforests in North Carollina I suppose but with rather different flora. I visited a nice temple on a hill today where i had to take off my shoes before entering. I was on top of a hill with colorful prayer flags everywhere, the views were limited however as it is very cloudy this morning. Apparently you can see Kachejunga (sp?) from here, which I think is K-2, but it is far too cloudy to see it today. I met some Israelis this morning and at breakfast with them, not exactly traditional, it was a huge bannana "pancake" which looked much more like a cake the the pancakes back home. The

hotel I found to stay in yesterday isn't bad. The owner is very nice, she invited me to have tea with her and talked with me for quite a while. You can often hear monks chanting and drums being beat, its quite nice actually. There are many dogs and monkeys in the streets but they don't try to bother anyone. Ha, I could be playing counter strike right now, as many others are in this internet cafe, they have it on the computers here, and for only 50cents a minute! I also went to what is purportedly the highest zoo in the world today at about 7000ft and saw some red pandas and jaguars and other interesting Himilayan animals. I think I will stay here a little while longer and then probably head up to Sikkim by 4 hour shared jeep to Gangtok. Hope everyone is well. I am finally getting over my Jet Lag, I think I slept for 12 hours last night.

Hi Scott, Now you sound like you are really on an adventure! I am jealous. I am waiting for a photo, or do you think that will be a pain to do? I am going to email grandma and grandpa about this website so they can read about where you are. You sound like such a world traveler, oh, I guess you are. Love, Mom. PS It is Laura's birthday today.

Dude, the monkeys almost attacked you because they thought you were one of them. You need a shave and shower, I hardly recognized you.
