From British teenagers...
It's only been 7 days, yet I'm carrying on like one of those people who live in jungles for years and then turn up asking if the Nazis won. We've basically been living in a desert for the past week, where the people live in actual mud hut style houses and there are very few facilities. Suddenly we're in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia and the fact they have actual buildings made from concrete (with windows and doors), cars, traffic lights, internet cafes and a KFC makes me feel slightly dizzy. I can barely contain myself - as soon as I'm logged off from here, I'm going for an iced latte. Seriously, certain tribes of Africans would benefit from Starbucks. (I'm only half joking.)

Anyway, what have we been doing for the past week. Well, we met our group for the overland tour. There are 20 of us, a tour leader and a driver. Everyone is nice enough but living in one another's pockets can be annoying. This morning I found myself getting competitive with a girl from New Zealand over how fast we could take our tents down. I think I need a bit of time away from these

people. The group is pretty diverse - ranging from 4 English 19 year olds to a 50 year old German woman called Berget and a 62 year old Swiss man called Jean-Jacques, who is highly entertaining.

We've crammed in so much it's too much to bore everyone with here. Highlights include sailing down (up??) the Okavango Delta in a canoe which was good except for the spiders (I know I keep going on about this but it was like something from a scene in Arachnophobia, they were hanging over our heads most of the way. I ended up lying flat down in the boat in case one got in my hair. I think the local guide who steered the boat with a pole might have been taken aback.). We've also been on a river cruise on the Zambezi where we were really close to a herd of elephants. I had to delete quite a lot of photos as I got a bit carried away. We went on a game drive and saw a lion sleeping (I hope you all have the song in your heads because I had it for days - if you didn't you do now), more elephants (I'm getting blase about the elephants which seems a bit ridiculous), giraffes (from a distance - they could have been trees), buffalo, hippos, impala (not sure of the spelling but basically deer), baboons as well as other random things (ie warthogs and other types of deer).

What else... Ross paid for us to go "microlighting" over Victoria Falls on my birthday. This basically involves sitting on what looks like a lawnmower with wings and flying over the Falls. It was really good until the guy let me steer and we started hurtling towards Zimbabwe. It was a definite highlight though - the views are amazing.

We have now passed through Botswana which basically comprises bush and very few people. We went on a walk with a tribe who live off the land yesterday. They are all really small and dress in proper tribal outfits (I say this because the last tribe we were introduced to wore designer clothes and had mobiles). Anyway, the way they live is pretty incredible.

I actually have to go as I only have 4 minutes left. At Sarra's request, the last section has been amended:

Food of the week: worms. Well, a quarter of a worm which I chucked down my throat and followed with lots of water.

No time for the quote - will do that next time (let's just say it involves Ross, an Australian with no sense of humour and Steve Irwin. In fact - I should probably just leave it to your imaginations.).

Bye.

No Otters?
Kerry is well known for being over indulgent with a camera, On a visit to an Otter sanctuary when she was little, she took 36 photos of them! The elephants can join the Otter Album.

Seriously, I don't know whether to laugh at you or cry with jealousy. Blase about elephants, is it? Kudos and applause to you. Edinburgh news: um. It rained yesterday. Jonathan caught a mouse and left it in the middle of your bedroom floor. He was very pleased with himself. Maybe it was a belated going away present. I've missed The Apprentice two weeks in a row. Stephen has put Billy up on your bedside table and the cat shows not the least bit of interest in him any more. Haven't seen any elephants.
4th May 2008

Why am I not surprised that there is no interest in Billy any more. Also - where exactly did the mouse come from? Is the Apprentice not on Wednesday nights at 9? I'll start textng you at 10 to.
