Zip-Lining with Family . . .

Lee, Mom & I Ready To GoLee, Mom & I Ready To GoLee, Mom & I Ready To Go

You can see the exhaustion on my face . . . though it looks like disgust!
Before Mom & Lee came to cruise with me, we’d emailed a bunch of times about things they were interested in doing in the ports. I was surprised (pleased, but surprised) when they said what they really wanted to do was go zip-lining! Ocho Rios, Jamaica is the one port we’re visiting this week where that is an option, so today that’s what we did.

We first had about a half hour bus ride along the coast. Our driver/guide was fantastic and the scenery was lovely. But I just could not stay awake! I love having family here with me, but I am drained. Whenever I’m not working, I’m visiting. And my work schedule just does not line up well with early and long port days. Plus, I’m doing a gym challenge this month with the camp carnival girls (whoever goes to the gym the most this month wins the pool of money); my goal is every day for the whole month. But I’m struggling to do that this week because I’m so busy and just so tired. Though last night, after a feast at supper club (sooooo good), I then marched myself up to the gym and with a stomach aching from endless courses of rich seafood and chocolate, I walked 2 miles, then lifted weights. So I’m trying. But I’m exhausted. So to be honest, I napped most of the drive.

We went to this resort area where a lot of tours run from. Including beach horseback riding! I am determined to do this before I go home. It’s another “life list” item, so I must do it while I’m here. But we didn’t linger down by the coast, soon we headed up into the hills and the rainforest.

We were suited up with our equipment, then off we went! The zip-lining was good. There were 8 different lines, plus 2 drops. It’s interesting for me to think back to last year, when I went for the first time in Costa Rica. I was so terrified! It was such a big deal for me to go. And now, I just happily hop off the platforms and zip along through and over the trees. The drops still make my heart, well, drop . . . I’m sort of glad when they pop up, because it keeps it adventurous and challenging for me. I’m getting good at facing fears. At least the physical ones!

I think Mom & Lee enjoyed it, in the end. Though I teased Lee that I knew he was uneasy because normally he’s always talking but when I asked how the first zip was, he only said “okay”.

The rainforest was beautiful and perfect, as they always are. I can’t get enough time in the rainforests of all of the ports I get to visit. There is something about them I find majestic, strong, inspiring and peaceful.

After the zip lining, we had a rest down along a river that ran through the forest. It was beautiful. We walked through some gardens, again very picturesque. Then had a brief visit back at the resort down by the coast before we headed back to the ship.

Only one more day with Mom & Lee on the ship before they’ll be heading back home. It’s been so good to have them here. And it’s been good for me this week to be out in the ports and doing things. I need to do more of that. It is, after all, the reason why I’m here.

I kept teasing Lee that he never looked like he was having a good time in photos. Finally they're both smiling . . . Maybe because the zip lining is over?
