this is corduroy!
we like to keep our fans in the know Corduroy Snow: snow that has recently been groomed by a snow grooming machine which is left with a combed, corduroy-like finish...just like you see on the famous corduroy fabric that keeps your legs warm in the winter time.
With that taken care of, let's move on to the many adventures that we found at Beaver Creek.
We had a little bit of a slow start this morning, but once we got geared up and grabbed our breakfast to go, we made it to Beaver Creek by 9am. We listened to the ski reports on the radio station on the way out and the nice guy on the radio informed us that Beaver Creek had gotten a couple inches of fresh snow over night and that we should be putting on sunscreen to protect our beautiful faces. The temperature today was probably around 40 degrees and it was absolutely bright blue cloud-free skies all day long....but also nice soft snow. See, usually when there's bright skies in NY, that means that the snow isn't quite as fun as it could be. Yet another reason that I love Colorado. I think I would have to start a whole different blog to
Beaver Creek
the view when we first got off the chair lift discuss that Colorado love situation.
Anyways...
Once we got to Beaver Creek, we opted to park in the middle of nowhere so that it was free (yup, we're that good). So we parked good ol' Petey out in the free lot, booted up, and hopped on the shuttle to the main part of the mountain. Once there, we very quickly put the backpack in storage for the day, filled up my CamelBak with some water, and were out on the lift in no time. We took an amazing first run full of fresh corduroy and powder and then worked our way back up the mountain to adventure into the little terrain park and head over to a different side of the mountain.
After winding through trails and such we found ourselves immersed in a land of snow, trees, and more snow. We ended up making a fun tree run down and then went back up again and kept our speed off of the chairlift so that we could glide around the ridge. The bottom of one of those trails came to a nice stop at the Ritz Carlton which was absolutely gorgeous. We sat in the Adirondack
lounge chairs and enjoyed some nice energy bars that I had kept stored in my CamelBak (ah, I love that thing). Once we felt powered up, we went up the chairlift and left the beautiful Ritz Carlton - and it's very own dog, Bachelor - behind us.
We then ventured all the way over to the right side of the mountain to Arrowhead for a couple runs until we decided to start finding our way back to the other side of the mountain for lunch time. Our lunch was quite lovely and consisted of a few slices of a bread, a small jar of peanut butter, powerade, triscuits, and lounging on the terrace at McCoy's (right at the base). We made ourselves some nice little sandwiches and enjoyed the sunshine and the scenery. After finally buying some sunscreen and refilling the CamelBak, we were back out on the mountain.
This time, we went all the way over to the left side of the mountain to the Stone Creek chutes. In the middle of an amazing tree run, we peeked over the edge and decided we were capable of adventuring that way - and so we did. It was
basically straight down, all snowy, a few trees here and there, but ohhhh man it was fun to do! I was totally nervous in the beginning but once I got going I couldn't stop smiling I was having so much fun! We eventually made it down that and ended up in some nice bumps and powder and then went back to some regular terrain for a bit. We even ended up taking a very long trail that probably took us about 40 minutes to get down! We ended up back at the base at 3:56pm and the mountain closes at 4pm so I would say we did pretty well! Oh, and who greeted us at the bottom of the mountain? Ah, yes, the cookie lady....although it was actually a cookie man. But either way, these free, hot, gooey chocolate chip cookies were simply stunning! After chomping down a couple cookies we locked up our snowboards and walked around the village for a little bit going in and out of the stores and just enjoying every moment.
We then officially began our Apres-Ski experience, which for those of you who are unaware with the terminology, it is French for "after
ski" and you can usually find people drinking and having fun all over the village. We went back to McCoy's where we had made our lunch earlier and that's where we found a crazy fun guy playing the guitar and singing songs while everyone around was drinking and singing. We each had a beer and hung out there for a bit enjoying the fun and the smiles and the ever so blue skies that still surrounded us.
Then it was time for dinner to feed our little snowboarding tummies. Right in the village we went to a nice place called the Coyote Cafe. We enjoyed a nice little cheeseburger and taco dinner and then headed on our way out of Beaver Creek with our goggle tanned faces and memories of an amazing day out on the hill.
Of course, once we got back to the hotel it was totally hot tub time. Jason and I enjoyed the idea of being outside in a hot tub in the winter and the sky was so clear you could see stars for miles.
Overall, today was an amazing day at Beaver Creek and now we're pooped! In fact, Jason must
have gotten quite sleepy while I was writing this because I just looked over and I'm pretty sure he's just about asleep right now! So on that note, I'm out for the night but Jason and I are very excited with all of this interest that our fans have displayed and we hope that these blogs continue to make you smile!
Enjoy 😊
