Trees
This is my entry to the can picture contest. D+6
Shows today!
Our first show was this morning, a school show, which is a 45 minute version of our real show (which is about 95 minutes). We all thought it was at 10 (including house guys), but apparently the presenter told some people it as at 9:30, and lots of people thought it was at 10. It was pretty crazy. Lighting during the show went fine. There were several mic problems, the video loop got screwed up, and comm went down at one point. One of the performers missed a cue where she was the only one onstage, one of the girls ran off stage in the middle of a number thinking she was done. Not out best anything, but it was basically our only dress rehearsal. (Yesterday, we had a tech thru with some stop and go, and teched the school show. No dress at all.)
We had a few hours off, sort of. Not off, but doing notes and fixing things and making phone calls and having meetings and such. Finding out more of what my job entails and whether or not I know what’s going on. Checked out of the hotel, blah blah.
There’s a number in the show where the kids all dance with tin cans. They’re great! But on the slideshow, there was no picture for it. One of the guys had a pic from when he was in Africa of this cute little kid with this huge smile and two Coke cans- pretty cheesy. But, we are traveling with several photographers, so they started a contest for them to see who could take the best pictures of tin cans on concrete. I took the challenge to heart and took some. To my surprise, Ryan, who posed the challenge, liked the idea of “ACC” followed by “can” followed by “dance.” I also made some of trees, since that has been our main topic of conversation for several days.
The night show was better on some counts, but worse in others. Audio was much better, but our PSM was not really on top of calling cues. And again, video was off. We’re not really sure why. Soon after the show, load out happened. It went really quickly. I think I understand so much more now about how it all goes together and comes apart and what does what where and when, so I was better able to lead people in bringing it down. As soon as everything was loaded and we bid farewell to our crew of 5 days, we hit the road for Tennessee, where we are headed now. We left around 11:30 p.m., and it’s a 5 ½ hour drive. Plus we lost an hour. We’ll get in around 6, and load in is at 7:30 or 8. In all day, show, load out, there will not be time to sleep. We are glad we all have our own rooms tonight, though none of us will ever see them. Maybe get a shower in. And a good breakfast.
We have 2 people in the truck, and 4 in each van. At lunch, we set the car assignments. There is the “girl power” van, and “Jami and the boys.” As usual.
Today was so beautiful. It was around 63 degrees outside. So warm! Too bad we were inside a venue with no windows all day. Oh well, it’s the nature of the job. Before the show tonight, I was talking to both Joans. They were pretty excited that I remembered their names. I told them I would always remember them because they were the first kids that I met. There was music playing and I started dancing. When I asked if I could dance with them in a show, they said, “No Auntie. You have not practiced.” Maybe next time. When I asked if I could drum, “No. You cannot keep the beat.” Shot down again. But they did show me some of the dance moves. They said I could be either in the South Africa dance, which is just clapping; or the can dance. They were very funny about it. I still have not been officially introduced the all the children, so several of them have no idea who I am.
So we are driving. It’s after 3. And it’s Ryan’s birthday. For those of you who don’t know, I tend to surround myself with ridiculously smart people so I can constantly bombard them with questions. I love it! So, I’m in this car with our LD, who is also a brilliant photographer. And our tour leader guy, who has been with ACC for 10+ years and also takes pictures. We started out with lots of questions. Mostly about photography and learning how to use my new camera- specifically to shoot lights. And, since they both have a lot of experience in that, it was great. It’s been quite fun. Lighting questions, design questions, camera questions. But, when we first got in the car, they said I could ask as many questions about anything- except trees or plants.
Tennessee hotel arrival time: 5:37 a.m.

Hey Smith, Techs don't dance or have any beat keeping abilities. You know that as I was you prime example. Steal me the wireless clear coms, it;s the only way we will ever get them. Prayers and love for you Dave
