After the 3 flights and being awake 30 hrs straight (we couldn't sleep a wink on the plane) and five airline meals in a row we landed safe in Bangkok! We were amazed at the difference between Air Canada and Thai Airways - I think AC could learn a thing or two by taking a flight with Thai Air.

Bangkok is a huge city! You hear about the pollution and crazy traffic but what most people don't mention is how great the people are. I've never been treated so well in a big city before - for tourists, everything is at your fingertips. It is amazing and very easy!

Contrary to our plans, we spent a day speeding around in a tuk-tuk (three-wheeled open roofed scooter). Some of the stops we wanted, some the driver made just to get kickbacks from dropping foreigners at jewelry shops and tailors. Was all good fun though as even the Thai sales people are remarkably polite and genuine. The people are so passionate about buddhism and buddhist values that you can see it everywhere.

Planned much of the trip from Bangkok which was easy once you were here. Food has been excellent - currie rice, noodles, fresh fruit etc. We only had the one day before departing so we can't wait to get back to see some Muay Thai matches and the major sights.

Later we caught up with Lindsey's friend from Cochrane, Carmelle and a friend she met from Finland. We walked Khao San road and the shopping at street markets was ridiculous! We were also entertained by our mis-pronounciation of simple things like - Phak yaw with rice! (Fried Kidney Bean with rice)!

Next stop - an EARLY train to the old capitol of Ayutthaya.

The Night Market - it was crazy, maybe due to the full moon!

Awesome!
Hey kids. Congrats on the 30 hour journey! Your pictures look great. I like Pipin on the pink bicycle. A tall white guy on a pink bike doesn't stand at all. Almost looks like he's one of the locals. haha. :) You guys have fun and be sure to take lots of video footage as well. Keep posting the pics. It's really cold here so enjoy the warmth. Travel safely!! Chris
