Another weekend away

I'm not sure how long all this gallivanting will last, but I'm certainly enjoying it!

We took a long weekend to go tramping and jet boating, and it was brilliant :-)

We hiked into Canyons Creek and over to the Ahuriri valley (near Omarama). The first day was a beautiful walk, and at the end of the day, we found a lovely camp spot next to a waterfall and pitched the tent - it was lovely to just decide that was where we were camping and stay there, and there was nobody else to be seen. The second day was more of an adventure, we had to do a lot of route finding once we got over the pass (I say "we", I mean Duncan), we were making up our own route and it turned out to be much steeper than we'd imagined, so it took a while to get down. Duncan was like a mountain goat whilst I resorted to crawling for a lot of it!!!!

Surviving the first descent of the hill, we then went on for a day of jet boating, heading up the Dobson river. I've decided jet boating should be called jet pushing, as we seemed to do more pushing of people that had got stuck than boating!! Still, we made up for all our hard work by staying in a very nice lodge and getting a wash (4 nights camping had taken it's toll) and a meal that hadn't been cooked on a camp stove. For the record, I would have been happy to camp again, but once I saw the room with it's comfy looking bed and hot shower, I was ready for a change.

So, now it's back to the farm, I've managed to escape milking duties for a while now, but today I'm on "rag wort digging" - it's going to be a team effort to get rid of them, I'm hoping to get the role of support truck driver rather than digger ....
