When I decided to come to New York for New Years I envisioned the "White Christmas," I bought leather gloves, dug out my jacket and a beanie and started walking in my winter boots for the week prior to leaving... I found out the night before leaving to NYC that there was no need for such gear, the weather in NY was comparable to the recent weather in LA (about mid 40's).

I caught my flight in the morning on the 28th with a layover in Nashville (I refused to layover in a city known for its delays and storms) and then my flight into NY landed at 11pm. The bus outside the La Guardia airport took me to a train stop near Lexington and Martin Luther, then the train uptown to Grand Central. When I got off the train I called Tina and she sent her friend down to pick me up. The rain was starting and it was a chillier feel than I had thought I would encounter (good thing I still had my gear). We walked the ten or so blocks to the area of 38th and 2nd Ave.

The past couple days we have not really left for more than a couple hours. We have been cleaning and organizing and rearranging. The party is tonight with a total of about 250 RSVP's coming for the NYE Couchsurfing party in a one bedroom flat in the city (that we calculated will hold 60 people). The run off will flow into the hallway and perhaps to the stairs and if we can keep God from crying tonight then about 100 on the roof. Certainly we hope not everyone is here at the same time. Tina has made some lovely food for a few people to taste and others have noted they will bring traditional foods etc... I am curious about what the night will bring. There are travelers coming from around the globe, a handful that I am very anxious to meet (but of course I want to meet everyone). We have been staying awake until near 6am, yesterday we were in our PJs the whole entire day. lol I have not seen anything on this trip, but I am ok with it because my reason for coming was to see Tina and help with the extravaganza. My friend Natalie, she lives in Hollywood and we met in Paris, she is coming tonight as well. Liber flew out of Miami at 6am and last we talked was in Philly trying to get a flight to the city. I am hoping he is on one now. I will also get to see my friend Janna that lived in Palm Dessert until 2 weeks ago and I did not get to say goodbye. There are so many people coming and through the group I am sure we have traveled the world a few times over, how amazing it is to be a part of this organization of dedicated travelers.

After the insanity of the evening I will most likely getting on a plane tomorrow. I will have layovers and will be lucky to get on flights, but I will make it home at some point! 😊 I am looking forward to all that 2008 has to offer, I know very well that the past year was amazing and in the past 2 years I accomplished an enormous amount for myself. I am proud of me! I have some changes to my life I really want to make this next year. I am trying to build myself and work on who I am, allowing myself to be me and realizing who I want to be. We will see how it all unfolds and what adventures are in store.

Best Wishes for health, happiness and LOVE in the new year and years to follow!

Cheers
Erin
