Actually I've milked several! And I haven't got covered in poo yet! Amazing!
Well, it's been just over a week since I landed, having never been on a farm in my life and being completely intimidated by all the farming talk at the jet boating weekend, I've spent this evening discussing the benefits and drawbacks of herring-bone sheds versus rotary sheds and am starting to be impressed by various types of farming machinery - I can't believe it's happening! I've driven the 4x4 around town and dirt tracks, driven a quad bike with a dog sitting on the back and I've seen an incredible amount of smelly yellow puss come out of a cow's leg as the vet cut a swelling open (hope nobody was eating their lunch reading that). I'm also trying out the "Anne-Marie" technique of calling all the cows "my lovelies" and talking them into moving rather than shouting "move up" at them (although I can't help but be typical me and think of moo-ove up when everyone else says that and have a little giggle to myself).
Better go, I think I'm being drafted into the early milking shift in the morning, so I need
to be lively at 5am ...
