Holy freakin' crap my friends have been arrested under NZ terrorism laws! The house i was staying at in Wellington (128 Abel Smith Street) was raided by the police about 5 days after i left it.
There are members of the Maori community who want to have a Maori state and were starting to get organised. The NZ officials arrested the leaders of this movement. Two of my friends who are not involved with that stuff AT ALL were arrested last week in the same wave and the house i came oh so close to living in permanently was raided at 6am. Crazy. My friends haven't been charged with anything and are being held without bail at the moment, but there are all kinds of prisoner solidarity stuff going on and people trying to help them out.

But back to more normal things...
So i stayed with that family just outside Carterton until friday. The mum and 2 kids were awesome the dad was an ass and wrote the most appallingly bad music. But it was good there. From there i did my first hitch-hike (didn't have to wait more than 10min and he drove a long way out his way and pretty much dropped me at their door) with a very nice man called Ben up to Teradale for Friday and saturday night i stayed with a slightly older couple. It was ok there, but the guy was a complete racist (blaming the loss of the all blacks on the lack of white men in the side, saying the Maori should go to Samoa and see how bad life is when the white man isn't there to run things etc) and his wife was kinda neurotic so i left there a day early and spent Sunday in the Art Deco town of Napier and stayed in a renovated prison which was kinda crap but never mind. Sunday night i went to see Atonement with a Norwegian girl named Edna excellent film go and see it if it isn't already gone. I seem to find myself attracted to the sea more than i expected.
Now i'm staying in Clive (just outside Napier) with a vegetarian family (woo!) and the weathewr is finally nice! It has been appalling over the last few days, weather so bad you would wish to be in England, seriously. Cold, wet and grey.
I'm here til sunday when i go off to Taupo and start at a meditation retreat on Monday. I've learned you have to organise Wwoofing quite far in advance to get to the best places, which somewhat removes the spontaneity but means you get the best places.
I have so many stories i could say i could be here all day writing, but i guess your all just gonna have to wait to see me to hear them.
Chris xx
