Something in SepiaSomething in SepiaSomething in Sepia

My little finger-gun girl yet again.
It's been a great last week.

It's finally beginning to cool down in Jinan.. the air is cool in the morning and sweater weather is upon us here. I don't know what it is about the cooler weather, but I'm so much more content. There's been work, yeah, but work isn't what makes the days.

Thursday afternoon I met Yue in a new cafe next to McD's called Yos.Mite, and we sat and had coffee, and lunch.. and talked, told stories, played games... next thing you know it's 7:30 and we've been sitting in this cafe for 6 hours. Time just.. slowed for that afternoon. It's only ever happened a couple of times in my life, that I've actually lost track of time... but it was just incredible. We have a rare friendship, Yue and I.

I spent a couple nights hanging out at the Pyramid, just enjoying the music and the atmosphere, and hanging out with Rachel and the guys. Played congas for a while. Played a bit too long apparently, as my thumb is a little swollen.

Saturday night, I met up with Thomas, a Polish teacher who is teaching in Qihe, a small city
Perfect. Parfait!Perfect. Parfait!Perfect. Parfait!

This MASSIVE parfait that Yue and I shared at Yos.Mite!
about an hour outside of Jinan. We met outside of the WalMart (while I was waiting, two Chinese women came up to me from out of no where and told me I was very beautiful!) and went for dinner at the Spring Cafe. Talked a bunch, then headed to Pyramid for a while. Turns out there was a dance competition at midnight, so we stayed for round one of that and some of the talent there was absolutely amazing! Cabbed home around 1:30 and nearly killed a guy on a bike, but I've become so accustomed to Chinese traffic that I just laughed.

Not much to write about other than I'm having a good time. National Day (think Chinese Canada Day) is coming up pretty quick here (Oct 1st) so this week I'm working 7 days in a row so I can have a week off. Sophia and I were thinking about going to Shanghai to see Duncan, but he may have plans of his own. We may still go, but if not Shanghai, I'll go to Qingdao.

On another note, here is the latest addition of random things I've come across.

. When it rains
Conquest!Conquest!Conquest!

Yue enjoying some kiwi after finally conquering the IQ BLOCK!
here, it rains. So hard, that the sewage water runs out of the man-hole covers and all over the street and you get small rivers of raw sewage... just imagine the smell. Here's another example of a smell I'd love to capture on smell-cam for you all.

. A bug bit me on my face and there's a nice hard, red lump under my left eye.

. Cake bread. Imagine a little loaf of bread, surrounded by chocolate cake, and made into a bigger loaf. There you have cake bread. Fantastic.

. I made my first successful pancakes thanks to the "Just Add Water" mix I found at U-Mart, and made them for Danny.

. "Boils? On your butt? YOWZA!"

Life on this side of the world is good.

3 months and hopefully Court and I will be in Beijing.
4 months and I'll be in Thailand and almost on my way home.

See you then!

Love Laura
