The happiest couple....
Oh wait, not that one... So many of you have already heard but we thought we should make an official announcment that we got engaged a few days ago in Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. (we are in Berlin now, writing this, and about to fly to Turkey). It was wonderful. But first a few words about Krumlov!
Cesky Krumlov was beautiful! After the worst bus ride of all time. Really. Our bus to CK from Prague not only broke down, but after we switched buses we then got into an accident in the new bus. For real. We rear-ended a van. And they also oversold the seats so that there were several people who had to stand the whole time (right beside us, of course, all hot and leaning on us) and that would have been ok for those people if the bus ride had taken the 3 hours it was supposed to rather than the 6.5 that it did. Oh, and we were sitting right on top of the engine as well so it was slightly warm for us. And these other travellers from China (maybe?) kept telling us we were in their seats but we just kept saying no and we
This is the right one.....
The bench I proposed on. Dont we look really, really happy? refused to get up. I kept laughing because it was so ridiculous, but Colin just read the entire time so that he would not lose it!! It was a ball!!
Anyway, we got to Krumlov and ended up staying in two places, both lovely, and having a wonderful time. The town itself is small and medieval and esay to walk around. Very pretty, all cobblestone and castles. On our second day there we went for a walk up to a monastary to have a veiw of the town (walk... well more of a steep hike, and those of you who know me can imagine how much I complained!). Once we were up there it was gorgeous though and we were just sitting there watching the valley when Colin surprised me by asking if I would like to get married. After much deliberation ( haha, about 0.0002 seconds) I said YES and we are now engaged. When we get home we will make some plans and get a ring, etc. but for now we are just enjoying it all! It was sweet and simple and perfect. That night we drank some warm champagne from the corner store and went
out for a really nice dinner at a place where they cook your steak over an open fire pit and then went for drinks. The club we went to was bizarre, a total blast because it was full of older Germas rocking out on the dance floor. It was too funny. It was a wonderful day and we are truly excited. I can not imagine a nicer place to get engaged.
The next day I saw the Germans in the main square (as there was a medieval festival on where the smelted things and served warm wine and meat on a stick) and they all waved at us. Too funny. They were our there with their fanny packs on and everything cutting a rug.
Anyway, after spending the next day at the festival in the rain (booo) Colin started to feel sick and by the time we woke up at 6am the next morning to head to Berlin (bus ride and a 5 hour train!!) he was full blown sick.
We will write more about Berlin later but for now I can say that I truly loved it here!! What a city. Last night we went for
drinks at this really hip place in an old apartment block where you pay one euro for your wine glass, help yourself to whatever you want to drink and then leave what you feel you owe when you leave. One last throw back to socialism, I supppose, but it felt rather civilized!!
