Currently in Douglas, Wyoming- an hour or so out of Casper- recovering from my two and a half weeks vacation. Left Montana on Saturday and decided to take the scenic route down through Yellowstone. Relying fully on our Walmart Atlas (found in our new truck, which we have named “The Proud Mary”- the truck not the atlas) as opposed to Mapquest, we mapped our route like people did in the old days. Unsure of how much time it would actually take and being on a deadline- two days to get to Douglas, we unfortunately had to hurry through Yellowstone and thus were only able to enjoy that which we could see from our truck and the road. We did stop a few times for pictures. As you can see. (I have higher quality copies of these pictures, plus more, if anyone is interested. Just send me a message, and I'll gladly email whatever you'd like when I get a chance. I'm attempting to find a place to put up all my photos, stay tuned.)
From Yellowstone we drove to Cody and stayed the night. Arrived in Douglas in late afternoon. We’re residing in home stays this week, which is a
much welcome change to the hotels we stayed in all of last season. Two different homes, Megan is only a few blocks away. It’s a little strange not being with Megan 24 hours a day as per usual. I’m staying with a very nice family, which in a way is almost like a twilight zone version of my family. Not in a scary way, but just with small peculiar similarities. They have two sons, one 13 and one 16. The later of whom I have been chatting with in the evenings; post rehearsal. Staying with a family I feel so much more connected to the town.
It’s such as strange feeling staying with a family I’ve never met before. And like always I’m blown away by how much trust we are given, by complete strangers. Never having met me before I’m instantly part of the family. I register a slight feeling of eavesdropping as I sit in on their discussion of how their day went, but at the same time I feel very content just sitting back and having people interact around me.
As much as I love this job, I had some hesitation heading back into it
for the fall. Just remembering how lonely I was, I wasn’t sure if I could take a full year of it. But being back on the road, and now with a family, I’m finding it much easier to bear.
Auditions went great yesterday, we had to cut about 30 kids- always the hardest part of the week. One little girl, who didn’t get cast, kept asking “what about me?” as we read through the rest of the cast names. All the kids have very high energy- which will be great for the show, though not so fun to manage off the stage. Thats all for now. Yay wireless internet. =)
