Missoula to Douglas

We took the scenic route down to Douglas, taking two days, driving through Yellowstone and stopping the night right outside Cody.

Currently in Douglas, Wyoming- an hour or so out of Casper- recovering from my two and a half weeks vacation. Left Montana on Saturday and decided to take the scenic route down through Yellowstone. Relying fully on our Walmart Atlas (found in our new truck, which we have named “The Proud Mary”- the truck not the atlas) as opposed to Mapquest, we mapped our route like people did in the old days. Unsure of how much time it would actually take and being on a deadline- two days to get to Douglas, we unfortunately had to hurry through Yellowstone and thus were only able to enjoy that which we could see from our truck and the road. We did stop a few times for pictures. As you can see. (I have higher quality copies of these pictures, plus more, if anyone is interested. Just send me a message, and I'll gladly email whatever you'd like when I get a chance. I'm attempting to find a place to put up all my photos, stay tuned.)

From Yellowstone we drove to Cody and stayed the night. Arrived in Douglas in late afternoon. We’re residing in home stays this week, which is a much welcome change to the hotels we stayed in all of last season. Two different homes, Megan is only a few blocks away. It’s a little strange not being with Megan 24 hours a day as per usual. I’m staying with a very nice family, which in a way is almost like a twilight zone version of my family. Not in a scary way, but just with small peculiar similarities. They have two sons, one 13 and one 16. The later of whom I have been chatting with in the evenings; post rehearsal. Staying with a family I feel so much more connected to the town.

It’s such as strange feeling staying with a family I’ve never met before. And like always I’m blown away by how much trust we are given, by complete strangers. Never having met me before I’m instantly part of the family. I register a slight feeling of eavesdropping as I sit in on their discussion of how their day went, but at the same time I feel very content just sitting back and having people interact around me.

As much as I love this job, I had some hesitation heading back into it for the fall. Just remembering how lonely I was, I wasn’t sure if I could take a full year of it. But being back on the road, and now with a family, I’m finding it much easier to bear.

Auditions went great yesterday, we had to cut about 30 kids- always the hardest part of the week. One little girl, who didn’t get cast, kept asking “what about me?” as we read through the rest of the cast names. All the kids have very high energy- which will be great for the show, though not so fun to manage off the stage. Thats all for now. Yay wireless internet. =)

Check out the reflection- it makes the trees look alive.

Currently my desktop, this picture barely does justice to this incredible scenic view. It's what I'd imagine the Lake of Avalon in Arthurian lore to be like.

Still Thermopolis. How cool would it be to live in Thermopolis? Sure it's probably not too exciting there. But people would say, "Hey where are you from?" And you could answer: "Thermopolis". That in it's self would be worth it.

Thanks for sending these - they took me beyond my workday into that wondrous landscape. What a unique opportunity you have this year to explore, hone your skills and hold in your memory. You're wise to take full advantage of it!

yay Zach!
Hey! I'm so glad you're doing well! I love the Dick Cheney building.... LOL....my goodness! When will you be coming to utah? lol... will you be? Failing that, when are you next in Portland? Seriously, though. i miss you! Graduation is looming closer, and I am realizing that I will soon be done with school! Scary! Well, I'm sure I'll survive... Now that I'm actually making friends here, I'll be sad to leave! I do feel like going to the beach today, actually.... and I can't!!! It's so unfair! Oh well... today I found out that the coffee shop by my house is open on Saturdays now! I am pretty friendly wtih the owner, and I was so happy that I got to see him today. He's a super nice guy, and his name is Quinn. Anyway, I wish I could show you around SLC! The chances are diminishing as I write this! Ta-ta for now, lovely Zach. I hope you don't see any more dubiously named federal buildings! Love, Megan
