After 2 weeks in Vietnam we flew from Hanoi to Siem Reap, Cambodia. This place was definitely the highlight of my trip, just as Easter Island was the highlight of last summer's trip. It was another outdoor musuem. We spent 5 full days there seeing almost all the temples in the area and some a few hours away (Beng Mealea and Kol Ker). Except for the 2 far away ones in which we took a car with a very nice driver, Bonthorn, we were taken around by Mr Lee in his Tuk Tuk. We climbed so many temples. My favorite was the Bayon with all the big faces carved in stone. We returned to that one 2 other times because my dad and I liked it so much. But there was soooo many others, everyone being different than the previous one. Angkor Wat, the most famous temple, which is the largest religious monument in the world, was not even in my top 5 or 10 temples of Angkor. Dad said that this was one of the most spectacular places he had ever seen.
I loved the old traditional Cambodian music that was often played by land mine victims. I would
just stand in front of them, give them some of dad's money and dance with Elmo. I wouldn't stop until they stopped playing. Many people took pics of me.
I met so many kids selling cool bracelets, fans and other things. The food there was even better than in Vietnam. Dad would order
himself a spicy curry with coconut milk and me rice or noodles with chicken/vegetables. But I tried his and loved it so he knew he would have to order me better stuff from that point on.
Cambodia was also the first place I took a poo and pee in an adult toilet. I had only done #2 once in my kid toilet back in home. I was so proud of myself I screamed with enjoyment. Daddy was also very happy.
Elmo had a good time there too....until he fell out of the moto and was run over. His insides came out. In Vietnam, he was dropped from moving vehicles, run over, left overnight in bars and restaurants, but this was finally too much for him. Dad, being a doctor, kinda fixed him, but glad he is not a surgeon as all he did was
Me and Bonthorn
Our Driver to Koh Ker put a bandaid on his back. Oh well.
