Hi thats me in Chicago! Eventually got here after a mammoth 24hr trip! Ive decided only crazy people take Greyhound! The bus got stuck in traffic and ended detouring through Squirrel Hill ( im still looking for it on the map!) and we were 2 hrs behind schedule. Which meant that we missed our transfer so they tried to divide us up into different buses but then evryone is just pushing and shoving. Its mental, they all scream at the driver and then at each other which is pointless. The driver just gets the police, who man most of the stations, and then we are all held up even longer! Someone was ill on the bus aswell so we had to stop and get off so that his wife could clean up the mess that was seeping underneath the toilet door -Seriously! Everyone had to rummage for baby wipes, cloths, tissues, anything that could help. It was not pleasant i can tell you but the poor guy was mortified, he got off somewhere and went to a doctor.
Anyway Chicago is great, Lake Michigan is beautiful and i think i spent most of my time down there. Its fun
watching the young and rich come and go on their yachts, one even had a helicopter on the back which you can see in the photo i took. The harbour is lovely and so paeacful with all the little boats bobbing about. There is a huge big fountain by the shore, Buckingham Fountain. There were a few wedding parties waiting there to get their photographs taken and what a sight that was to behold. Every party had a different colour theme so you could tell who was with who but i cant figure out if this was intentional or not but i doubt it as they all left to go to different destinations. Some of them went in limos, some in buses, some in vans. Although the parties were all colour coordinated the brides were always in white except this one, who i guessed just wanted to be different. She certainly was in her bright pink meringue. Shes in the photos too so you can judge for yourselves. Lyndsey what do you think?? :-)
So i went to the Sears Tower aswell, 2nd tallest building in the world. It was fun but long queues! it has great views from the
103rd floor. You can see right across the lake and i was shocked when i couldnt see the other side, i had no idea its that big! Its like looking out to the ocean. On the other side you can see right across to 4 different states. Its country is as flat as a pancake for as far as the eye can see.
I ended up going to see Harry Potter at the Imax Theatre at Navy Pier with a girl in my dorm , Tracy who is from Connecticut. The screen is six stories high and i didnt believe it till i saw it! I had a sore neck when i came out! Navy Pier was great at night as you could see right across the Chicago skyline and its gorgeous all lit up. Had a vodka afterwards ( yes just 1!) in the Billy Goat Tavern, named after the curse that hangs over the Chicago Cubs. Apparently a man , many moons ago, tried to bring his goat to a game and they wouldnt let him in so he cursed them and right enough, they havent won a world series since ( or whatever the major event is
there, i really should do research before i try to remember these things!).
So onto Denver next, see you there! :-) x x
