OMG! To walk within the Ancient Roman Amphitheatre was someting else. Arles was originally a Roman town so has many remains of ancient structures the likes of which I have never encountered. On entering the old Amphitheatre, one can't help think of the horrifying acts thats took place here thousands of years prior. Man verses beast or criminal vs criminal to the death. The walls are impregnated with history and it fascinates me to imagine the countless communities that have lived among these ruins for hundreds of years, each havng equal regard for its importance.

Interestingly the french history of this town took somewhat of a back seat to the Roman delights. We did however visit a local museum that housed a treasure trove of local art though the ages since the 16th C. Beautiful examples of paintings, clothing and keep safes of various types of animals paws and a little bag to hold a childs lost teeth that had four tiny animal paws stitched into the fabric. I can only imagine they were mice paws, but had very long nails that was extremely creepy!

Arles is a beautiful town, its no wonder Vincent Van Gogh spent many days here painting its beautiful landscapes.

It's all in the details.
Let's all pack up and move to Europe! Everything is a feast for the eyes. Your heads must be spinning by now. Who is that person above your right shoulder, Kate - one of the seasons, perhaps?
