I flew into Hong Kong on saturday(23/6). The view from the plane was breath taking. I was unsure about where I was going to be staying and looking at all these islands made me panic a little. Where would be cental enough, have good public transport links and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
Got a hotel in the Kowloon area. Took the airport shuttle bus direct to the place. Thought I would treat myself. On the way there I couldnt help but admire the a???? of the place. Another thing that struck me was how British the place felt. The roads were excatly the same as back home. Once you get into the smaller streets, that is when it hits you that you are in Hong Kong.
So many signs that it would take your an entire day to look at everyone on one street alone. My hotel is very basic except for the plasma screen TV that is in the wall. Its next to the MRT and its only 20m from Nathan Rd the main shopping street in Hong Kong.
After checking in I went tothe Tin Hau Temple which was only two streets away. Outside was a big karoke event in the courtyard. Even I might have stood a chance of winning. Inside was very small, with the smell of insence everywhere. On the main alter there was three take away containers place in the middle. Intentional or not it made me laugh.
That night I went to a resturant next door to the hotel. It was a little bit upmarket, but you need to treat yourself sometimes. I had bbq meat assortment(char sui pork, sweet pork, roast duck and roasted chicken) and scallops with brocalli. It was lovely. Looking forward to sampling much more food.
