Nice and the Cote d’Azur

Imagine yourself inside an Indi 5000 computer game and that was my first experience on the streets of Nice. Negotiating road blocks and innumerable one way streets, there were tears a phone call and a final sigh of relief when Emmanuel, the agent for our Nice apartment turned up on his motor scooter to lead us across the 8 lane intersection through a security boom gate an upwards on a narrow street that brought us to our new abode, on the Monte Desambrois.

Nice is what I imagine Cuba to look like, minus the american classic cars. 5 storey Sea side apartments with ornate wrought iron balcony’s only big enough to hang your undies out to dry. Coloured walls of yellow, blue and red ochre with contrasting coloured shutters. Cobbled streets and the smell of salt in the balmy warm night air.

I am still acclimatising to the warmth, as my body is craving the cool. We thankfully got some reprise as we floated in the turquoise shallows in a bay at Villefranche and toed the smooth pebbles underfoot. Actually my poor little feet got a beating as I scrambled excitedly from the car to the waters edge leaving my shoes behind. The beaches are of course covered in irregular pebbles and stones that pierce the soles of your feet …. which doesn’t allow one the glamorous water entry one would like on the Cote d’Azur!

I am overwhelmed by the hoards of tourists and am looking forward to a week cycling around the Creuse Region. Our days seem to pan out quite well in any case, arriving at our destination around mid - afternoon then heading off by foot to visit the sights. By this time most of the early riser group tours have expired from exhaustion and leave the sights somewhat empty for us to enjoy.

Yes our apartment in Nice was spectacular and our drive to Eze equally so. I’ll let my pictures say the rest.
