Leaving Munnar was an adventure. We had left early for breakfast which ended up being pancakes and hunny, lush. And then we wondered back to our hotel, to find lots of police on our rd, further up we found the riot police armed with Bamboo shields!!! Then we were stopped from going any further. I had to neigoate with the head Policeeman that all i wanted to do was get my bag from our hotel, after some haggeling, even for this matter!!! He let me alone go, to which i found even more Police and a hug amount of Press, and a JCB Bulldozer plowing into the hotel next to ours...at first i thorght it was an accidents, but the more i saw the more i realised that this was the local goverments way of scaling down on the expanding and illigal growth of Munnar, just without warning bulldozing down the hotels/homes. I was helped by my hotel manager to grab my stuff and get the out without too much hassel, and avoided the press. To grab a bus at the local post office here to Kumily. I am staying in a wonderful really basic banboo hut, with the national park over yonder back yard and i love it, maybe not the spiders i shared my shower with this morning but the place and the people are some of the nicest i have met on this leg of my journey.

The national park here in Kumily is home to over 1000 Elephants and 40 Bengal Tigers, lots of Monkeys and wild Bison, none of this i saw as the huge groups of people scared anything that moves off, with their screams and chanting and that was just at me as i walked my way through the national park. I then ventured off the main path, to just find some quite, but was acosted by groups of men still wanting to chat, and not understand that i want to be left alone, ment, i want to be left alone. Lastly a ranger came and told me off for not walking on the main rd, and spoke of the perils of danger of walking in the woodlands alone, from what little walking i did off the main rd, it seemed like it was far more safe to be walking in the woodland then taking my chances with the Indian drivers on the main roads.

They say the rains are coming this week. Will be intresting to find out if we can still get buses with the floods?

land of the tigers
Hi Chicken, thanks for the posting, i hope that you can figure it all out and that it does not scare you too much all this internet computer stuff!!! I am now in Sri lanka, and feel like it is a compleatly different world to India, i have seen women showing their legs!!! and even couples being openly affectionate...i know what is the world comign too??? I am now on the south coast, stayign in the nicest hotel, which i can only afford as it is off season, which means monsoon rains and now surfing, the surfing is on the east coast now, which is total no go area, in reguards to the tiger troubles. I like it here, but am finding it kinda hard to get used to having more freedom, kinda. I even wore a skirt this moring which felt very strange. I hoep that you are doign well, and i hear that you are having a big Bar BQ for you 30th birthday. I am so sorry that i will be missing it. But i think i will be in Vietnam or somewhere by then, so i will be sure to at least try and ring you. Fingers crossed. Take care and i miss and love you heaps. Robin xoxoxoxo
