Inspiration for my bus tripsInspiration for my bus tripsInspiration for my bus trips

I wish Lila was here!!
Well two days and 1000 kms of bus and train later, and I'm sitting here in Chiang Khong on the Mekong River right up in the Golden Triangle. Laos is literally 100m away from our guesthouse (or however wide the river is) and we'll be heading there at 8:30 tomorrow morning. I found out about a place in Vang Vieng (about 100 or so k's north of Vientiane) that does WWOOFing, and I might look into doing that for a week or so! I've decided that the ONLY way to travel is to stay somewhere for more than just a few days (more than a week too, but you can only get 15 days in Laos, so I wanna see a bit more of it). The actual TRAVELLING part of travelling sucks! I've taken to lying in the aisles of teeth-rattling buses using my ukulele case as a pillow (rather effective!) as the only way to try and block it out. BEING somewhere is much nicer than the whole getting there bit, although we are about to embark on a slow 2-day river cruise down the Mekong, which should be quite a bit nicer than any bus! So from Thailand, it's

We can see Laos from our verandah. This is literally looking out from out guesthouse.
so long for now- I'll try and find some facilities in Laos to update sometime in the next week, but I've heard that they are few and far between. Seeya Later!

The stooges I am travelling with for the moment. Benny, the dreadlocked, slightly evil-looking python-loving stoner from Oxford and Pete, the very evil-looking homocidal maniac, Chopper Reed lookalike from Vancouver :) ...and me stuck in the middle.

After a lifetime of searching, I found my Frank Zappa tee-shirt on Khao San Rd! Only $6! Bargain! (He was askin' 7... told him he was dreamin!)

Trying to hock my stereo on Khao San rd while Benny gets his dreds redone. Managed to swap it for a wicked American-army duffel bag some Australian guy was trying to get rid of! Not a bad deal!
