Samba
To the beat of the drum...... After one of the heaviest night yet of our trip we all decided that to survive this carnaval we would have to pace ourselves a little better. There are 3 main routes, Barra (the beach circuit), The Campo Grande Circuit and then the Pelourino circuit (Samba). The Pelourino circuit was right on our door step and thankfully was the tamest of the three, this was generally safe enough to walk around with cameras and money in your pocket due to the heavy police presence, this is where the families spent there time. However do not be fooled into thinking that this circuit is for the light hearted, it still continues to 5am it just means that you aren't trampled on and don’t need to mission into town.....perfect for day 2.
We spent our second night on our doorstep, jiving to samba through the narrow, authentic streets of Pelourino. From 12pm the party started everyday, how lucky were we that we never needed to venture much further than our front doorstep to be frolicking in the atmosphere and live music on our doorstep. This was by far the closest you came to the costumes and dressing up that you would
Samba
Tell me again your not ladies expect from carnaval. In every direction there was a costume, mainly of a man dressed in drag and what must have been the hub for the Brazilian gay community but the vibe was good. The party once again continued until late in the night/morning.
