Dogs, roosters, loudspeakers, music, gusting breezes, dust........BUT it is sunny! The rooster pen is just adjacent to this RV park. They do NOT stop! But hey, it IS, after all, Mexico .........
Today, Saturday, is market day in almost every city in Mexico. It is a fun thing to visit but this one is more for the locals. Clothing, much of it second hand, is for sale, as well as fruits, veggies, meat (unrefrigerated!!!), cheese and household goods, even some furniture. It was soooo windy that even some of the vendors were threatening to close shop. The dust was really bad. In fact after we got back, I was covered in a dust crust!!! LOL!!! Only the main roads are paved--well, if you can call it real pavement, and all the side streets are dust.
After the market we went downtown to explore more. I wanted to find the Posada de las Flores which is a hotel located in the heart of the city just opposite of the Mission church and facing the Central Square. What a gem it is!! It is a charming hotel with a Mexican colonial ambience. Everything in the hotel is designed in the style
of 18th century Mexico. When we entered the reception area, it was like taking a step back in time. In the reception area are tropical plants and a shimmering light as if coming from water! And it IS! The ceiling is the glass bottom of the pool above! There is a spiral stairway that leads up to the different levels. Quite romantic!
After lunch, we decided to head out the the Nuevo Puerto Loreto--which is a a development that clearly went belly up! As I stated in a previous entry that Fonatur was developing this place with the hopes of it being like their earlier developements in Cabo, Ixtapa and Cancun. I am not sure what happened but it appears that all construction stopped. We went to the Golf Club there and found the course to be in very sad shape. The building housing the Pro Shop, bar and restaurant were vacant! There was a guy there to take your money--$85 for 18 holes w/ a cart but the back nine was torn up! We had a good laugh. After that we went to an open house to see a condo for sale. What a joke. One bedroom on
the second floor, 295$K, and if you want the garage too, another 50k$!!!!! Then we went to a home and it has a lot of potential and the owner is eager but I just don't think this is the "place". The house is just a short jaunt from the beach and has a good view of the ocean, but the beach is not very nice. The owner claims that the place WILL become successful --IN TIME! If we are talking "Mexican time", well that could well be into the next century!
We will leave here tomorrow, head inland about 130 miles to Ciudad Constitucion for a night and then down to La Paz.......Enjoy the pics!
