Tom speaking: Relieved to arrive in Varkala for a bit of beach-side chillout, we got a cute beach hut at the end of the cliffs. No Ac, just ceiling fan but to be honest it's cool enough at night right now not to need it. Headed out to get some nice seafood after craving it after a week of thalis, curry, etc. Most of the places have fish out on the slab, but a conspicuous lack of ice, and conspicuous gathering of flies. So we found one that did have ice, and selected a big snapper to share. It was delicious, but Bry's tummy was a bit uneasy afterwards (we blamed it on the local gin).

So, 6 hours later and Bry is blowing both ends in the bathroom. 6 hours after this, I joined her. Safe to say that Christmas Eve was a bit of a write off. We timidly set out for a simple pizza in the evening (which did stay down), but then Bry started getting feverish, so we popped a Cipro each and felt loads better this moring :-)

Bry speaking: Thanks to Tom for his dainty description of my bathroom nightmare! Anyway, having settled in Xmas eve for an early night to recover we were treated to alocal celbration of a troop on teenage lads on totally tuneless, beatless drums walking up and down the cliffs for nearly two hours shouting happy christmas. This finished to our relief but was quickly follwed with a carol service meets Karoke show from next door. I have never heard such a truly awful rendition of silent night in my life. Maybe we were just lacking a little in Christmas spirit?!

Merry Chrimbo!
Hi there, hope you guys are feeling better! Me and my boyfriend J were in Varkala about 2 weeks ago for 5 nights as part of our travels. We stayed at the Seaview Hotel by the North Beach which was 500 rupees a night which we thought was a bargain! Never got ill, recommend eating at the Clayfootie (cant remember how its spelt) There was another fab one we found - but cant remember the name - sorry! we did enjoy lots of happy hour cocktails at the Dolphin Bar - very friendly guys! I would say avoid the Auyvedic Massages, however it is an experience and a good story to tell - will leave it at that!! We went to Trivandrum and stayed at the Evergreen Lodge (something like that) - its very near the Stations and its in the Rough Guide - and its dirt cheap 250 rupees!!! and its decent enough! If you get to go to Trivandrum - Tom you should def get a suit made for you in Raymonds - they are excellent - best in India!! Jamie got 2 Tuxedos and a suit made for 40quid each and they are gorgeous quality - made in 2 days and Im sure they could post it to the Uk for you! anyway theres lots more I could say but I think Iv said enough. If you have any q's just give me a shout. ciao xxx

Happy new year to you both!
Hi guys, sorry to hear you were taking turns to drive the porcelain bus (although probably a slightly better experience than the buses you've encountered so far!) but delighted to hear that you've managed to 'enjoy' Christmas festivities and carol singers! Happy new year from us - looking forward to the next instalment! xxxxxxxx
