Left Cairns after picking up the car early winced at the rental but it had to be done and it was the best deal $2215 Aus for 58 days ,can you believe it all the cars are auto and yes just as Tenerife they are white !!
Port Douglas much smaller than Cairns but still covers a vast area ,space is not a problem hger in OZ decided to stay central as a great number of the motels are spread out so you need to have a car to do anything ,staying the main street everything very handy.
much more up market some of the property is amazing covering several acres.the resorts are straight out of fantasy land.
met up with my Son Alexander and his friends who like me had travelled from all parts Ireland Uk,Perth Aus.Cape Town S.A
just to be at the wedding .
however before that we went out on the "Haba' a massive Catermeran to the Great Barrier Reef to Scuba Dive .
I wasn't aware how far out you have to travel. Hour and half to get to the Reef ,but well worth it amazing coral some parts of the reef are 18million years old but where we were 8000years old ,well the limstone base structure as we all know the coral is a living thing it can been seen from the moon the only living creature that can.
The beaches at Port Douglas and further north Cape Tribulation (named By Captain Cook in 1770)are 100 of K,s long and are stunning ,however during the Summer months you can only swim in controlled areas that have been netted off .The Problem being the "Stingers " jelly fish .The most deadly which is means almost certain death if you get stung is the tiniest you just can't see them (The Box Jelly).you get panic attackes within several minutes axcrutiating pain and then your heart gives out .
The Irukandji jelly fish doesn't kill you but you still end up in hospital for amonth and it does have side effects apart from the pain .for men even worse it gives you a permanent erection for the month and there is no antidote.
and to top it all these beutifel beaches also have salt water Crocodiles very aggresive up 8 metres long for fully grown male and they can run faster than you apart from that every thing is hunkey dory.

The wedding was out of this world in terms of the setting and the wonderful ambiance, right down by the beach (glad I wasn't paying the bill though) every thing went like clockwork even the weather was kind after 6 days of overcast skies and rain the sun came out with blue sky.
Went up to Cape Tribulation yesterday to see where Captain Cook hit the reef which he named "Endevour" after his ship and where he beached it to spend several months repairing.hence the name of the bay "Cape Tribulation What an amazing man and his men were into the unknown he is really revered here in Australia

The Tropical Rain forest is some thing that is just awe inspiring and the fact it is some of the oldest in the world, older than the Amazon.

This is my last day here in Port Douglas before I continue the Adventure met a chap at the wedding who has a dive boat down at Airlie Beach so will be heading down there tomorrow but it's a long way in one go they reckon 7hours so will see how we get on.
