Well after getting a cyber-bollocking from Chucka about moving on from Cancun..... I thought I´d better get my ass into gear...
The truth behind the delay in leaving Cancun which I will share with you now, is that only a little before leaving Australia, did I learn that due to the speediness of my arrival back into Oz from Peru (a WHO listed country that has been in the past infected with yellow fever), that I needed to be vaccinated and be able to show a valid vaccination certificate upon re-entry into Australia. The disease has a 6 day incubation period...so basically you know in a week if you have it, and thats why if you´ve been to an affected country within a week of returning home, AQUIS gets nervous. (my reluctance to share this story up until now is due to the inevitable carry on from my wonderful mother had she been aware!!..love ya mum!!)
So, I´d thought to myself that I´d get in it London......but money issues and my laziness prevented me from doing this.....so I thought... I´ll get it in Mexico...its nearly Sth America...surely it will be easy to get.... BZZZZZZTTTT...wrong...not being able to speak much
Spanish turned out to be a bit of a problem......so about 12 clinics, pharmacies or hospitals later, i enlisted the help of the guy who owned the hostel I was staying at (who I only saw twice the whole time I was there... a kiwi no less!!), and after 7 more stops.....I was in business.....got the shot, few ill effects apart from a sore arm and a few joint aches... and I can share with you a new phrase I learned " Vacunacion para fiebre amarillo"...Vaccination for yellow fever!!!!
So all that shite out of the way I jumped on the bus for my hour ride to Playa del Carmen (for the ridiculously high price of 34 pesos...which is less than $5 OZ.......)
Holy shit!!! Why I didn´t come down sooner is a mystery.....the fact the sun hasn´t stopped shining is a plus, but its exactly what I wanted...beach close by.....crystal blue water..the beers a little more expensive but Corona or Sol is still cheaper than at home!!
First arv here was spent sitting in a sun lounge that cost me $4 to hire on the beach.... alternating between reading and swimming....buying Coronas that are delivered to
Doing it tough
In the hammock on the little verandah arrangement outside my room me on the chair for about $4 as well. (the cheapest I´ve bought them before is a dollar....but I think I was paying for the view this time!!)GOOD TIMES!!
As with any tourist spot...every travel agent, shop...whatever... has a spruiker out the front wanting you to come in.... finally succumbed to buying a snorkelling trip the next day on nearby Cozumal...an island about half an hour ferry ride from the coast.... really glad I did...awesome day out....the guys feed the fish to make sure theres plenty around...and in the crystal water.... on a bright sunny day, the colours are unbelievable.
Was absolutely knackered after my day on the water...ended up falling asleep at about 7.30pm and woke up at 8.30 this morning.... but in case you thought I´d gone soft....I´ve got one more night here...so I think I´ll try and check out the night life tonight!!! 😉....
I leave for Peru tomorrow night outta Cancun....so until I´m in Peru....
Up ya bums
