a few days ago we went to rio dulce with our cousins. Rio Dulce is a river that goes from the largest lake in Guatemala to the carribian cost. Today we went to el Finca del Zapote. El Finca del Zapote is an old farm that is not so much about the farm but the landscape in it. There were oases like ponds scattered around a piece of land at least 10 acres big. The main pond was about 15 feet deep at the deepest and was surrounded by shade, beautiful, exotic plants. Today our ant and uncle come to visit us with our grandma. Most importantly they brought us out baby cousin who was born just a few weeks after we came here. She is the cutest baby on the planet. The whole time she was here she only cried for maybe 20 minuets and she was here for a week. Wile they were here we mostly just relaxed and talked. Around this time of year various churches will start making something called fombras. Fombras look like carpets because they display them on the floor but what they really are, are colored saw dust formed into patterns on a blanket of yellow saw dust. It is really amazing because if you think about how careful you have to be. For example, once you are 1/2 way done and you screw something up that you did 1/4 of the way through, you can’t fix it. Today we had our first day of school. When we got to school the 2 weirdest parts were that nobody was wearing there uniforms and nobody had there backpacks. I walked up to the front of the school and found my friend there. he told me that today all that would happen is that the principle would give a long boring speech and then he would tell every grade were to go. For the past week we have been getting ready for school to start on the 14th. Our tutor has done all of the registration work and had to stand in line for a total of close to 6 hours. She had to do all this just to pay tuition and get our books and school supplies list. The first day when she went to the school she waited for over 2 hours in line to get us registered. On December 23rd out neighbors from the states, The Gellerts came into Antigua for Christmas, new years and a whole lot of other fun. Our friend from Boston, Carlos, also came down. The first night they were here we were so excited but we soon became bored and started burping the alphabet. The next morning we woke up and walked into town.
