First 30 Minutes in India
New Delhi Train Station
STD in India

It’s a perfect morning in Boulder, and I’m sitting outside with a cup of tea after actually eating breakfast, thinking that I should make this morning meditation a ritual. Stopping to do nothing except nurture myself is blissful. I’m exhausted because I didn't sleep well last night, as much from excessive thinking as jet lag (although it was worth it because I came to some pretty major insights about myself). But God, it’s beautiful on my patio, and the air is so cool and clean here. I’m feeling well in spite of some pretty major health issues since I’ve [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone!!! I'm back in Delhi now, and I don't have much time to write because I'm going to head over to Connaught Place (supposedly the tourist epicenter of Delhi, but I haven't made it there yet!) with this French couple who just landed in India this morning. It's funny because I haven't been here long, but I feel like I can show them the ropes, a bit;-) I'm looking forward to relaxing in an air-conditioned restaurant and writing some post cards, then maybe I'll hang out with the cool Indian women I met yesterday. I will try to write a [View Full Entry]

Cleaned and Disinfected!
Cleaned and Disinfected!
My bathroom at Clarks
Hello again:-D After yesterday's craziness, I figured that for my well-being physically and mentally/emotionally, I better stay somewhere nice, pronto. Air conditioning was mandatory and that is only guaranteed, from what the gentleman at my old hotel told me, at two places: The Taj and Clarks. I ended up at Clarks, after a long-ride of yet another driver trying to take me to a "cheaper and better" hotel. He then wanted to be my driver for the day, which I declined, and he was very upset that I didn't want to make use of the half-day of shopping Clarks had included [View Full Entry]

Clean and Air-Conditioned
First Cycle Rickshaw
Four-way Traffic Stop

Hello everyone! Since my last entry, a ridiculous amount of things have happened (finally!), and I am currently in Varanasi, which I can't describe better than Mark Twain did: "Older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together." But I'm going to start from where I left you in McLeod Ganj and work forward. I took a taxi from McLeod Ganj to Pathenkot, a dusty little town, and then waited several hours for my train to come (the man who booked my ticket told me I didn't need to [View Full Entry]

Avoiding the Water
Bye!
Nightly Puja

Hello:-D This is my last night in the state of Himachal Pradesh. I was going to fly to Delhi tomorrow (2.5 hours), but I didn't realize that the plane is a 16-seater, and it's completely booked:-( That means tomorrow I'll be taking a taxi to Pathenkot (I don't want to repeat the 5-hour bus ride since I hear it's only 3 or so hours by cab), and then an overnight train from Pathenkot to Delhi. I'm thinking that I'll spend the night in Delhi and then take a train to Agra in the morning to see the Taj Mahal, which is [View Full Entry]

Oh my gosh. This is super-embarrassing, but I know it was the amoxycillin that had me break out because.... it's actually happened before! When I had mono in 1998, interestingly, the last time I took antibiotics, I broke out in the same exact rash. How did I forget that?????? And every time someone asks if I'm allergic to any medications I say no. Ridiculous. Anyway, I'm SO happy to know what this rash is all about, and also to know that it will probably be gone by the time I get home. Phew! All is well:-D Love, Jess [View Full Entry]

Hello! First of all, I'm okay. Seriously. You really need to get that before you read on. Okay, ready? Secondly, I will never, EVER, EVER!!!! say the phrase, "Well, at least it can't get any worse." I was thinking that as I almost started to laugh and cry at the same time after slipping and falling on the marble steps leaving my hotel. But not to worry, because you can hardly even see the bruise through my full-body (including face) rash. The details: Yesterday I started to see a rash on the inside of my wrist and a little bit onto [View Full Entry]

Hello!!! Here's the news for yesterday: Yesterday, I spent most of the day lying in bed in a ridiculous amount of pain. I stared out the window for a long time, and as I watched an old woman with a bandage on her leg begging for change, I thought about how lucky I am to be sick and, at least in this country, affluent. Health care IS free here, but still, I thought about all the people in the world that have had shingles (or much, much worse) that couldn't lie around in a nice, warm bed and relax. Even though [View Full Entry]

Okay, I definitely have the most witty and brilliant family and friends in the entire universe, evidenced by your awesome comments. Thank you!!! I haven't been answering individual e-mails and comments, but I promise you, it's not you, it's me:-) I'm just too tired to answer all of them currently, but I reeeeealy appreciate them, and I will get back to every last one of you when I'm back in the States. I'm still in McLeod Gang today, and yes, I still have shingles. I didn't do a whole lot today, which is still driving me *nuts,* and now I'm debating [View Full Entry]
