Drishti - Rich + Amanda Hendricks

Rich + Amanda Hendricks Where to begin? How did we get to this? Are we
a little insane? We wanted a change and an experience to solidify us and set the tone for the rest of our lives together. We hope to share a lot through this journal and hope many people become attached to our adventure and excited to read what happens next. We have titled this blog, Drishti, after the term used in yoga to define the point of focus where the gaze rests during meditation aiding in concentration and alignment. It is "pure seeing." Our journey will have this same theme of maintaining focus on our goals and our state of mind. This is the beginning of what is to be the greatest experience of our lives and we embrace it and look forward to an amazing time together. We thank all of you who take the time to log on and be a part of our adventure and encourage an open dialogue with anyone who visits. We leave for Tokyo on January 5, 2006 and will begin our entries sometime after that. To anyone who asks...we've gone traveling. "Great things are not accomplished by those who yield to trends and fads and popular opinion."-Jack Kerouac...so we won't. -Rich + Amanda Hendricks

We´re time traveling again. Realizing we haven´t put up photos from a few months ago here are some from our trip through Kerala. Who would have thought looking for an elephant in the Western Ghats would be como buscar un aguya en un pagar? (We´re collecting Spanish phrases). But it was. The elephants eluded us that day. Not even one came out to greet us, but we were glad that there was an element of surprise that hadn´t been with us before. We arrived in Thekkady after a relaxing week on the beach near Trivandrum. Fishing village of Puthen Thope. Rich´s [View Full Entry]

.....crazy in a lovely way, a great way to describe the journey so far. We´ve done a lot since our last entry. It is a little overwhelming to backtrack and realize all that we´ve been through. We´re not through yet, but we have made our way out of Asia. We had mixed emotions about leaving which is normal after spending 7 months traveling through. It was our home. We miss it a little now that we are in Spain. We have been blessed again with good fortune and have managed to secure a beautiful apartment in the heart of Sevilla. We [View Full Entry]

Flashback - Thailand

Asia » Thailand » South » Ko Phi Phi
Long overdue. Some photos from Thailand. We had an amazing month in South Thailand at Kamala Beach, Phuket; Long Beach & Viking Beach, Ko Phi Phi; Ko Lanta; Krabi Town; Bangkok. The beach was magnificent. We must have watched the sunset every night and revelled in the Andaman Sea. For every action there is a reaction. [View Full Entry]

Some of you may ask, "What the heck do you do all day, this is the third blog in almost as many days?" A good question. Enjoy the pictures. These are some from our first few weeks in Danishpet back in March. Such a big part of our experince at Bethel was the time we spent with the children in the classroom and outside just passing time. The children of Bethel should be an inspiration to us all. [View Full Entry]

Sunset over Chennai

This is the story of our day, May 7, 2006. The following includes no exaggerations, as it needs none. We woke up in the morning at our comfortable homestay in Fort Cochin, The Spencer Home. Our third day in Kochi. We lingered in bed a little longer than usual. We were a bit hesitant to start this day. Today was the day we'd planned to attend Thrissur Pooram, Kerala's biggest festival. Today was the final day of the festival, and we were excited at the chance to see elephants adorned in festival attire. We hesitated because 8 people were killed a [View Full Entry]

Words of Wisdom

India has happened to us. Nearly two months and no blog. We're long over due, and the longer we wait, the more things happen and the more we feel we don't know where to begin. We're pretty sure we're in India. But it's not entirely impossible that we're still on the island of Ko Lanta, having a really surreal dream. Henna tatooed hands. Two sets of toe rings. Armfulls of bangles. Jasmine flowers. Spinning tops. Broken cricket bats. Mosquito net tents. Blasting music. Dusty roads. These things seem real. Too real. Hyper-Real. Senses open. Smog. Ganesha on Sri Meenakshi Temple
Madurai, Tamil Nadu, South India
As I lay mediatating in Tamil Nadu, I longed for cooler Himalayan climate - a breeze - or even for the electricity to come back on so my ceiling fan would move. It's hard for me to clear my mind here in India - thoughts rudely crowd my meditation. My senses are too open. I remembered my last yoga class. I miss the guidance of a class - someone else's brain doing the work of reminding me what pose is coming my way next. I had a great one in the States before we left which I dragged Rich to, and [View Full Entry]
