This is just a blog about our three week trip to China. We leave April 6th 2006 and return April 29th. Our hope is to speak Chinese with the people there AND be understood. It 's a high expectation.

Getting ready for a month in China

We are getting ready for our second trip to China. We are going onebag.com way. Ruth got a bag with rollers and backpack shoulder straps. I have no wheels, just the shoulder straps. We also got a non-stop flight from Atlant to Shanghai on Delta for just $588 round trip. We leave in just a couple of weeks. Our plans are: 1) a few days in Shanghai 2) two days in Suzhuo 3) a few days in Pingan 4) a few days in Yongshuo 5) a weeks visits to several villages from Guilin to Guiyang 6) the last few days back [View Full Entry]

Returning Home

We had coffee with some friends at a Beijing Starbucks. But the hour flew by and we needed to head out to the airport. It took longer than we thought and again we were lost trying to figure out where we were supposed to go to pickup a flight to U.S.A. Last Days in Beijing

It's worth the visit. There are flowers and trees and rocks and a huge lake. You can rent boats or take a small "shuttle boat" from a point at the edge of the lake to the island. Qhingdao Beach

Qingdao Market

We decided we haven't spent enough money on goods so Ruth and Lynn found yet another market in Qingdao. This one is the best so far. No pushiness, no grabbing, no yelling. Just a simple stroll through floors and floors of goods. Everything you can imagine is for sale here too. China has lots of goods for sale. It's a buyer's market. Ruth has been looking for a pearl necklace so finally got one here. Lynn said they were so cheap she got one too. Shopping in Qingdao

Believe it or not. We wanted to pick up some Chinese language learning books so went to the largest book store in the city. They didn't have what I was looking for. The same books on Amazon cost $30 each. Bill bought his in Beijing's Wangfujing for $8 each. It seemed so strange to go into a book store and not be able to read a single book! Weird. Qingdao

A Walk to Longji

Room with a view.

These beds are like oak boards. Man are they tough on the back. I pulled the sheet back and discovered that I'm sleeping on a just a box spring. What happened to my mattress? We have a nice console between the beds that controls our TV, room lights, and the bed lights. Trouble is the knob on my side controls Ruth's light and the knob on her side controls my light.
