Thanks so many people for posting, also does anyone have any idea where else i can post this question so i can get a massive amount of voters, i would like to get a fair amount of people who been to all areas around world, eg a forum for africa, asia, europe, antarcticia, central america, caribbean, middle east, north america, oceania, and south america.
As all these people would have different opinions as in europe most likely to name places close to us or hear most, unless travel a lot, but interesting to get a mixed range of votes.
Please feel free to post this question for me elsewhere but if you could please give me the link to your post and responses get be appreciated.
Also please keep posting your 10 if you havent voted

I love the idea of ranking 10 cities for "XYZ".

Most famous cities is hard as obviously it depends where you are etc...

But going from the OP, the 10 cities that spring to my mind when i think of famous cities are:

1. London
2. New York
3. Paris (unfortunatly it's full of french people!)
4. Rome
5. Sydney
6. Tokyo
7. Brussels (silly EU)
8. Rio
9. Moscow
10. Either Cairo or Cape Town

It would be a very different story if i went for favourite cities, or cities i most want to visit, or most unique/interesting cities etc.. Reply to this

I'm very surprised at the bias being displayed that's why I had to join and post (along w/ why)

1. New York (Biggest City in most powerful country, Urban, definition of true city)
2. London (London for god sakes)
3. Tokyo (Another city of cities, makes New York look like a rural village)
4. Hong Kong (Export capital of the world, #1 most beautiful skyline in the world, international people)
5. Paris
6. Moscow (Capital of Russia and still symbolizes the power of the USSR)
7. Rio De Janiero (Mixes urban w/ beautiful beaches and ghettos, one of the most beautiful cities from the air)
8. Sydney (Most widely known city in Australia, beautiful beaches and city.
9. Beijing (While Shanghai is definitely cooler, Beijing's communist symbolism of the largest country of the world)
10. Bangkok (I live there so a little bias here, but amazing city in which people from all the other cities on the list frequent for vacation so you have to include it.

Why I left off the list..

LA - Not a city, more of an area where you have to drive 45 minutes to eat at your favorite restaurant
Most cities in Europe - I have never been to Europe and I know I would probably want to add some of those cities on the list but I just have no experience...

By the way I've only been to 6 of the cities on my list...

Obviously our tourism ministry has it working well...SYDNEY! Not my favourite Aus city and I live here - heavy promotion overseas is the only reason I can see it makes the list.

1. Dublin (good times)
2. Paris (food)
3. Bangkok (cos its bangkok)
4. Rio De Janiero
5. Amsterdam (gooood times)
6. Rome (ancient history)
7. Phnom Penh (recent history)
8. Darwin (any city that has 'suburbs' named fanny bay and humpty doo has got a lot going for it)
9. Hong Kong
10. Moscow
