Intrested in Travellers opinion on the 10 most famous cities in the world in your opinion
Name 10 of what YOU consider to be the most known cites in the world. (please do not look at a atlas, map, book etc) or read other peoples answers on here (which hopefully will be) as no right and wrong answer just intrested to see which 10 come out on top, have got 30 answers so far and have 70 cities name.
just write down the answers that come to your head, be interesting to see how frequent the same answers come up and if varies according to where you lived and also where you visited etc.

Gareth, do you have official information about which cities are the most know by the most people in the world?
They are probably not the cities that are the most known to us here in Europe.
Probably cities in China are more known to more people with the number of Chinese people there are.

Reply to this i could not help myself and read mel's answer before i had time to think. I agree, but would replace munich with beijing and moscow with kairo.
Reply to this hey mell no i have just started it up and have sent to all my friends and a lot are around the world, so getting a bit of a vast opinion but mostly european, but i thought try and put on here and hopefully get more votes from people from different regions of the world, i have had quite a few so far, about 50 votes have added up so far and want to collect a lot more as interesting to see, maybe you can help if know where to put on.

Reply to this Ive now had 44 responses so far and New York has been voted by every person (44), London has 43 votes, Paris 42, sydney 29, Tokyo 27, Rome 25, LA 19, Moscow 18, Beijing 13, Madrid 11, Berlin 11.
Interesting results so far, but would like a lot more people to reply as have had mostly European responses but have had quite a few as well from Asia and Oceania, Certain parts of America as well.
Also have had in the 44 responses had 65 different cities that have had at least one vote.
Interesting results.

Tough though, I'm tempted to include Madrid, Berlin, Rome, Moscow, Istanbul, Cape Town, Toronto, Rio, Cairo, Mumbai and many others. But IMO those are the 10.

Reply to this Many of mine are the same. I tried to think about each continent as well, although I didn't come up with any in Africa that would make it in my top 10 of most famous (although they're on my top 10 of places to visit!).
New York
London
Rome
Paris
Barcelona
Honk Kong
Tokyo
Sydney
Beijing
Buenos Aires (this could be Rio de Janeiro as well, it was a toss up for me)
Reply to this The top 10 for me (in no particular order) would be:
London
Paris
Rome
New York
Delhi
Sydney
Vienna
Venice
Moscow
Madrid
Reply to this I actually posted this on my blog because it really interested me to see what people thought. I will let you know what responses I get. The one that I got that was a little different was Las Vegas. I had thought of Las Vegas but I thought that I had a bit of a distorted view, being American. The response was also from an American, so tough to tell. So I'm wondering, for those of you that are not Americans, how famous is Vegas where you live? I was wondering the same about Los Angeles - I thought about including it, mainly for it's connection to Hollywood area, but I wasn't sure how famous it was worldwide. I also think that seeing some other lists, I'd probably replace Barcelona with Madrid on mine. For some reason, that city slipped my mind!
Reply to this Do you love crowds so much????
New Yokr London??
I love faraway places without the crowd!
Reply to this I actually do love crowds as odd as it sounds! And i live 2 hours from New York so I'm used to them! Plus at least for me I listed my most famous, not my favorites so I think that's where the difference lies.
