The Introduction of the Grand Mass Gymnastics and Artistic Performance
The sky is boundlessly clear and blue and mountains and fields are tinged red. In this beautiful and fruitful autumn the grand mass gymnastics and artistic performance “Arirang” is staged successfully every day at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang.
The shifting fantastic scenes of the artistic performance, the ever-changing wonders of the background and the splendid pictures projected by the artistic combination of extra-large film shots and laser illumination grip the hearts of the spectators at the 150,000-seat stadium turned into an artistic world of the work.
The work consists of the prelude, Act 1 Arirang Nation, Act 2 Songun Arirang, Act 3 Arirang of Joy, Act 4 Arirang of Reunification and the finale. It comprises 13 scenes.
Artistes including prizewinners of international and national artistic contests, talented students and schoolchildren and pretty little children take part in the performance. They number tens of thousands.
As the title of the work indicates, the extravaganza shows, with gentle music of Arirang and kaleidoscopic scenes, how the Arirang nation of Korea in the East have undergone so many vicissitudes and become the master of its own fortune and how it has emerged on the arena of history today as a dignified nation.
The work was originally produced in Juche 91(2002) and the country’s liberation.
The stadium is packed to capacity every day, the performance arousing great interest across the world.
