If you're heading to Malaysia or Singapore, let me know. I'll be glad to bring you around and to show you some local places. I stay in Johor Bahru, the southern-most tip of Peninsular Malaysia, just next to Singapore.

So drop me a mail at if you need a local guide.

Cheers!

OOOOooo im in Singapore now!! lol im Im with family just now who live over here but just staying a week and then going to Thailand for 3 weeks and then Malaysia for 4 weeks to do Volunteer Work with animals. Singapore is an amazing place but 2 things!!

(1) bring LOADSS of sun cream(its like 35/36 degrees right now) and doesn't get any colder at night its exactly the same!!

(2) Bring LOADSSS of misquito cream! ive been here...4 days and ive allready been bitten about 5-6 times and it svery very sore and very itchy! ive got a very nasty one on my foot which is just starting to heal after 4 days!!

i would defently reccomend you visit all the little markets for good bargins on food, and prezzies! some shopping malls have great bargins too but watch coz the size of Singapore clothes might be different from what it is back home!! Also go to the zoo!! I went today and fell in love with it honestly! i got my picture taken with orangutans, got kissed and my picture taken with a sealion, fed the manatee and the giraffees, and it was just truly amazing!! its soo big and you really need a full day there to enjoy it all..you also have the night safari(which i aven't done yet but might do it before i go r afetr when i come back) but its supposed to be sooo good when you see al the animals out at night!! Emma, thanks for being so enthusiastic abt it. Yes, i agree Singapore has got many beautiful sights on just a little island. 😊 I stay only across a bridge from singapore and i do go over sometimes.

For Daphne, there are many things to do in Malaysia. if you are interested in the beach, i'd recommend you east Malaysia actually, not the peninsular where kuala lumpur (KL) is, but where brunei is.

The islands and beaches in kota kinabalu, sabah are wonderful. There are domestic flights to take from KL to Sabah. You could spend about 5 days in kota kinabalu, at the beaches as well as visit our mount kinabalu.

For the shopping, it would definitely be in Kuala Lumpur itself. If you'd like to see more local sights, you can take a coach to other small towns like Ipoh, or Melaka and visit the sights there. Ipoh is a really small town. If you don't want to be in a 3 star hotel, don't go there. But the local food is well known in Ipoh.

Melaka has turned very "tourisy". It's convenient to walk around Jonker Street n see the various trinket shops and food places. Melaka is well known - even to the locals - for the chicken rice ball and chendol.

Penang is another place that has beaches. The beaches are not as nice as those in Sabah. But penang is quite different from many other cities in Malaysia. With many colonial buildings still standing and in use. Penang is more a historical place.

Hence.... conclusion.... try out East Malaysia, then spend a few more days in Kuala Lumpur... Visit our Jalan Petaling in the evenings where we have a whole road closed for stalls. Be careful though, the prices quoted are usually double of what you can haggle for.

Other shopping complexes in the outskirts are pretty nice to go to too. Some are: The Curve, 1 Utama, Sunway Pyramid.

I may not be able to personally show you around, but feel free to contact me if you need to find out more.

Cheers...

HI Daphne,

Langkawi is a duty free island - meaning that alcohol and cigarettes are REALLY cheap! 😊

Langkawi is an island and in the small town itself - Kuah (there's only one town there) - there are shops where you can buy many local products. Clothes are good too buy in Langkawi.

I have personally not been to Frangipani. So I won't be able to give you much information on that. Most of my info will be what you can find online.

However, most hotels and resorts have half day or one day tours to island hop, where a boat will bring you out to the nearby islands. That's one of the programs that I would personally go for. It would give you a good view of Malaysian islands.

Do you drive? I would usually rent a car while in Langkawi as car rental prices are very cheap too, due to cars being duty free as well. It's easy to drive on langkawi with only a map. You can also visit more places with a car of your own.

Better islands to go to would actually be Redang island or Perhentian island. If the sand and the beach is what you're looking for, I would recommend those. No shopping on those islands though. Reply to this

Having a local guide will definitely help to ease things up. Will definitely get in touch if the service is required!
