Anyway, I would recommend the Northern states during the summer months as it will be cooler. I don't know where you are flying into, I assume Delhi, but wherever it is you will be able to get a taxi/coach/bus/train north relatively easily. There are lots of places worth visiting in the north - I know I'm biased but it really is a beautiful area. It is much more relaxed than the big cities - there's less noise, less pollution, less beggars, less hassle! A good place to start is Mcleod Ganj. It is the perfect place to relax, adjust and meet fellow travellers to exchange ideas with. Shimla is another great destination - a rather European looking town up in the mountains, it has stunning views, and beautiful walks around. Manali is great to actually go up into the Himalayas a bit more. You can do skiing, paragliding and various things there and there are some wonderful temples to visit.
