So far my highlights have been;

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - "Cidade Maravilhosa" - the marvellous city.
Iguacu/Iguazu Falls, Argentina, Brazil
Ilha Grande, Brazil

I've only been to Brazil and Ecuador (not counting brief trips across the boarder) - but I've heard so many great things about Patagonia, Peru, Columbia that I think there many many more highlights in this stunning continent. Reply to this

I am halfway through a year long trip around South America and every few days I find another great sight, but real highlights have included:
- Iguazu Falls.
- Chilean and Argentine Lake District.
- Northwest Argentina - Tilcara, Salta, Cafayate.
- Torres del Paine, Chile.
- Fitzroy and Torres, Argentina.
- Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina.
- (this is an expensive one..) Antarctica!
Lots more info is on my blogs if you want to have a look.
Good luck planning!

I've only been to Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia (hoping to make it to Colombia this summer) but so far my highlights would have to be:
Galapagos Islands, Ecuador - TB: Galapagos!!!!!
Laguna Quilatoa, Ecuador - TB: Here comes the sun! (The photos really do not do justice to how beautiful it is)
Machu Picchu, Peru - TB: Machu Picchu (in the mist!)
Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia - TB: A pinch of salt
Have fun!

My buddy and I are landing in Quito, Ecuador Oct 29th. We currently have an exact end date of our trip but were thinking around dec 15th-20th. Our only must do on our list is hitting up Machu Piccu and some surf towns in Ecuador and Peru. We hope to get down to Patagonia and end in Buenos Aires. Does anyone have some suggestions on must see cities/attractions? We plan to stay out of Columbia, Venezuela, and Brasil. Reply to this
