russian visa outside your home country
does anyone know if it is possible to get a russian visa in mongolia (by a correct and legal way)?

we need some help!
We are four germans travelling through central asia and china since quite a while. now we wanted to start our way back to germany with the transmongolian railway and therefor we needed a russian visa. we tried to obtain one in shanghai but the russian embassy there refused. they said we need to have a permanent residence visa or we only can obtain a russian visa in our home country. so at the moment we dont really know what to do as our plan was going back through russia.
does anybody has closer information about this or did anybody got a russian visa in mongolia recently?
we are happy for every hint or advice!

hay ya,i think maybe u can ask german consulate in sh for some advice tel hope to be helpful

Looks like you can't obtain one outside of your country of residence. I've just called the Russian consulate in Berlin, and they've stated that I can only apply for it in Australia, as that's where I'm resident.

For anyone still interested: Apparently online agents can get you a Russian tourist visa quite easily. I think you should be able to use them outside your country of residence.

I've already been in contact with Real Russia. They said the same thing. I can always use a UK address, but I'm not willing to mail my passport to them, while I'm travelling. I simply don't want to risk it.
Anyhow, it's just another excuse to travel again later!
