I'm going to Australia for about ten days and traveling alone from NZ where I'm studying for 6 months. I know I want beaches but I also heard I can't miss Melbourne and Sydney. SO my question is what is the best way to travel alone and see the beachy and city side of Australia all together if it is possible?
Reply to this I am in Australia at present, and have travelled up the coast from Sydney to the Gold Coast by train.
It is very confortable and well worthwhile
Reply to this I travelled alone when I visited Sydney. A visit to Sydney Opera House, Darlington Harbour, Sydney Aquarium and the Rocks is a must. Enjoy!
Reply to this I travelled in Aus by a mixture of train, bus, organised tours and planes and would recommend it for seeing different sides of life- maybe not in 10 days though.
I got Greyhound ticket up/down East coast. for beaches I would definately try and see Fraser Island if possible in the time.
Sydney is amazing (I recommend climbing the bridge) but it is a capital city and if you want something I found that the interesting stuff was in the centre- Uluru, long hot dusty drives etc.The coast is beautiful but if you're not careful you can end up only seeing beach resorts which is a shame when Aus has so much more to offer.
Enjoy it, whatever you decide!
Reply to this Travelling alone along the coast shouldnt be a problem at all. I am studying in Sydney for the last couple of years and have been travelling a bit and its been great fun. Though public transport is efficient, the comfort of rooping in hitchikers and hiring a car and splitting costs has also worked out quite well for me.
Reply to this hi you may want to check out www.kidslovevacations.com. there are fun attractions and travel essentials.
Reply to this Any one know if hitch hiking is legal ? i know its not allways the safest but ive had fun in the past doing that in parts of the states ?
Reply to this I had about six days in the Cairns area and found the easiest way to travel around was just to rent a car. Although there are shuttles running between and to most places of interest, the timetables can be awkward and the shuttles do miss a few places. Plus they are expensive and cheap, small car can be rented for the same price. Add people you find who want to travel to the same places you do and the cost is defrayed. I do have a question about tour groups. Can anyone tell me about adventure tours, groovy grape, and wayward traveler beyond what i find on their webpages? Also does anyone have an opinion on which would be better in Tasmania for a week, travelling on my own or doing an adventure travel group? Thanks
