asking what countries we have to go through, tips on how best to travel on the silk route...
Hello,
We are coming up to the Europe part of our trip now, and to kind of stay ahead of the game we want to have an idea of good ways to get to Southeast Asia from Europe (without flights).
Our original idea was to get our visa into Russia, then proceed by taking the Manchurian express to Beijing. Then we thought about the old silk road... but we know nothing about the old silk road and how to travel it. So, if anyone can help us:
what countries do we travel through on route ad is it safe?
cool things to see on route?
Thanks!

Reply to this Okay,
so i know now what countries we have to go through; but, we want to avoid Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan - if at all possible-.
Reply to this about your silk road thing, it's convenient from Beijing to Xi'an, then move towards the north part like Tibet or Turpan...i'm not sure how many days you gonna spend in this trip. it was a pity that i only had 4 days there. if possible, i'd like to go once again.
Reply to this Didn't the silk road go from Xi'an - Karakoram - into the great Pakistan. Or of course, the other way around.
But then I'd avoid Pakistan too at this moment if I were you. It's either going right through the middle east, or going over it / passing it north. Many people would take the trans-siberian express... But I myself can't see the fun of being in a train for so long.
Reply to this we are hoping to go from turkey to india, just to make things clear. time is not really an constraint for us ... we have oodles of it!
