Hey!
I'm a New Yorker (with dual French citizenship), and I'm looking to live in France this spring and summer to learn the language and have fun.

I really want to take English class and work at the same time. Any advice?

There are a lot of "services" I've noticed that charge 1500 euros or more to help you with this. But I was thinking that if I head to Montpellier or somewhere with $4,000, some recommendations from my French restaurant boss, that I might be fine just finding stuff myself.
I speak average French, read fairly well, but nowhere near fluent.

I'm open to living anywhere, working anywhere, but I'm thinking a summer job in a restaurant or pub near the coast might be a good time.

OH! And I discovered that because I'm 28, I'm too old to au pair?! What a slap in the face!
(if anyone wants to trade rooms in an apartment, let me know. I live in BROOKLYN! The coolest place ever.)

Aix en provence is the best place to live. its so beautiful and only like 30km to the coast. you can work in one of the many cafes there because so many tourists come in summer that i bet it would be easy to get a job since you speak english.

newyorkhabitat.com is a good place to look for finding accommodation. there is this guy at ny habitat named gilles that lives in aix who can help you. they do charge a fee though.

you can take summer class at the ieefc in aix, one of the greatest school to learn french. i went there for a year last year and it was such a good school.

i used to live in the most amazing apt in aix and would have traded you for a place in brooklyn, but im already back in the states!!

good luck!

Hi there !

If you want to work in france this summer, it not should be difficult for you : you have dual French citizenship and you speak a little bit french, so you can find easily a job.

I'm french (so I'm living in france, near Nice in Provence) If you need some adresses to apply, I can find some for you.

Hey, I actually went to France last summer and now I'm back. Finding a job was difficult because I got to France in June. If you're looking for a summer job - you MUST start looking in April or May or all the teachers and students will snap up the good stuff.

I finally found a job through word of mouth - just met a lot of people in cafe's and pubs and finally found someone looking for someone.

If you dont live in paris, you might be able to get a room/share for as little as 250 euros per month. That's waht I found after looking around a little bit.

Hey Purpley and All!
I'm actually kind of in the same boat you were in. I am from the NYC area and have dual French/American citizenship. I am not fluent but am an average speaker and hope that once I get there the language will get back to me. I want to be confident in my French and was thinking that living/working there would be my best bet. I wanted some kind of program where I can take classes and work--and be with others.

I can leave anytime starting August (and stay until however long I please/get a job until) and am not all that picky as to where in France to live. I have my teaching certificate in NJ and would love to have any job working with kids (doesn't have to be in a classroom) and am open to other jobs. I'm thinking being an Aupair isn't really my thing.

Any ideas of where to start? I feel beyond overwhelmed with google searches and places that require you to pay loads of money (i'm worried of being scammed). I am pretty adventurous and have done tons of traveling in exotic places, but for some reason living in France scares me so much! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Merci!
