Hi there,

Yep, the websites are in Portuguese :)

I guess the best thing to do is ask for information when you arrive at the hostel. They sure know where you can buy the tickets and stuff.

Don't worry so much in booking it in advance. There are about 4 bus companies doing RJ-SP, and the buses leave every 30/40 min. Except for New Year's Eve and Carnival, when it's busier - then you may have to wait a few days. But they also provide more buses.

The ticket costs around BRL 60/90 (USD 35/50), depending on the type of bus. The journey takes about 5/6 hours.

Hope this helps!

Ana

Thanks Mike and Ana!

A great help you've been... I'm there for carnival time so was wondering it may get really busy so wasn't sure whether to book in advance?

I went to a few websites but either there's been a techincal fault or I don't have a CPF number?

I suppose I'll just book on the day I arrive into RJ.

Thanks once again!

Hi,
I'm Brazilian and live in Sao Paulo, if you need help I can translate some informations to you.

Don't worry about Rio-Sao Paulo... buses leave every 30/40 minutes, but if you think went here in carnival a good thing to do is to buy your tickets before.

If you need help to buy the tickets I can help you with portuguese/english.

Carnival is wonderful... enjoy!!!!

Hi Amar,

Well, I found one good site; http://www.socicam.com.br/ing/default.asp in this site you can find informations in english.

If you click in "start bus consultation" you can find the companies that make Rio-Sao Paulo.

The most famous is "Mil e Um" but every companies have good buses. The web site of mil e um is http://www.autoviacao1001.com.br/en/ and herre you will find informations in english.

The journey takes 5 to 6 hours, if you can, you can think about do this journey by Airplane.... it takes 40 to 50 minutes... just a choice.

If you need more informations please, just ask me. I live in Săo Paulo and I can help you with everything you need here.
