Traveling without money

Help! Traveling without money.
16 years ago, November 1st 2007 No: 1 Msg: #21807
Hi, nice to meet you.

While I was searching various quality travel photoes, I just happened to find this impressive site about one month ago.
Although this site is great, there is one critical problem.

"There are no photoes I could upload."

You know traveling, especially to rich countries, is way too expensive.
So I need clever tips&tricks on how to travel without money.
Hopefully traveling to all over the world without money throughout the whole year.

Well, at the moment I have nothing to lose any more. (family, friend, position and money)
So any excessive approach would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

wouldnt we all like to travel with no money!!

You could try WWOOFING... which is where you work on farms, peoples acreage etc in exchange for board and food. There are plenty of great experiences I have read about doing this.

Try couchsurfing and equivalents (Hospitality Club) to find cheap/free accomodation...

Make friends and try to bum of them... some locals will be helpful...

working visas... find out which countries have skill shortages..

but other than that you will need some money....

Wow, thank you for your information.
I've just found that WWOOF stands for World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farm.
At 1st glance it sounds great because I'd rather be a person of nature than artificial though more detailed research is needed later.

It wasn't expected that this silly question(travelling w/o money) sheds light on a new possibility.
Thanks again. Reply to this

Travel doesn't need to be world wide - where you are right now will be exotic to someone - try to see it through their eyes. Go out with your camera and write about it... I think you'll be surprised by what lies just around the corner. Reply to this

David, impossible is nothing and I know a guy called Matteo who actually did a whole round the world trip without money. He just kept something like 200 dollars or so as in some countries you need to show you do have some but he didn't actually use them. The only money he actually spent was for visa purchases which he had got before leaving Italy. He lived on the pocket money earned with occasional jobs picked up along the way and relied on free lifts (including on ships) for moving. That said, you need to be the hell of good in bring random people to voluntarily -constantly- help you out. With no need to go that extreme, you could travel on a modest budget, say 300-400 dollars per month and occasionally work and save up for the "bad" times.

@Ali
I've been thinking the same thing. "Could my local photoes do the job?"
It may be fun to adapt familiar scenes as if it was the 1st visit.

@Marco
It sounds like a good story.
But I want to travel like our ancient greatest explorer, such as Genghis Khan, did in the past across the Eurasia! Reply to this

walk it!
some of the most exciting and inspiring stories I've read are about people who walk their way around the world. take a wee tent and a good pair of boots and set out.
i have aspirations in that region myself... one day... Reply to this

@b.e.
Yes, walking is good.
We can feel more than just taking a bus or taxi.

I don't have any new ideas, the ones suggested already sound like the best ones to me... but whilst thinking about the concept of "travelling without money", I thought of this guy whose website I only came across yesterday:

The Freeconomy Community

I particularly like the thoughts posted on the Philosofree page. Although not as brave as him, I do share his vision and joined the community in a blink.

He's hoping to start his pilgrimage at the end of January 2008. You never know, you might come across him during your travels, and you could then share some tips...

All the best in your journeys

Looks like most of my ideas have already been suggested.

Just on the point Mell mentioned, i know of people who have asked to pitch a tent in someones garden, perhaps you offer some weeding etc or to paint a garden fence and in return a free pitch and the possibility of making new friends😊

You might check out www.vaughanvillage.com. They look for native English speakers (no Spanish allowed) to spend a week with their Spanish clients, executives wishing to improve their English skills. You have to get yourself to Madrid and pay for your own first and last night hotel, but everything else is provided.

Thank you for all these suggestions.
These days I've been re-thinking why I want to travel w/o money at all.
It turned out that what I really wished was not travel but migration to frontiers, which no longer existed in this world!

Elly the only way you could get to Karachi for free is if you hitch hiked all the way and to be honest i wouldn't see that as a possibility, i think the are ways you could do it cheaply but you would need some amount of cash, certainly you could use sites such as couchsurfing and hospitality club to get accommodation enroute, but you would need to get a rail pass or use coach's or something.

Sorry to say but you would need some money, can he not come to you?

Thx Mike😊 Reply to this
