Next destination? I read Alexander von Humboldt's account of his search for a connector between the Orinoco and Amazon basins (in 1800). The Casiquiare was known to trappers and missionairies of the upper Orinoco, but European geographers doubted there could be a river over a continental divide.

So that is my next trip -- starting in late June. Unlike Humboldt, I'll be able to travel on a boat with a motor and I'll have insect repellant -- Humboldt made lots of comments about the mosquitos and biting flies. And having found the connection from the Orinoco to the Rio Negro, Humboldt was not able to descend the Rio Negro to the Amazon due to the Great Power conflicts of the time (Portugal was protected by England and Humboldt -- a German -- was travelling under Spanish protection and thus could not safely enter Portuguese Brazil). I'll continue down the Rio Negro to Manaus. This will be new territory for me until I get to Manaus.

KST

Careful about what Ann? Do you mean as a woman alone?
I have been to Prague a couple of times. I stayed out all night the last time I was there and had no trouble. Also the hostel staff reassured me that Prague is safe at night.

Anyone going to Las Vegas anytime soon? Cirque du Soleil has a new show starting next month called Believe. It will be starring Criss Angel. That would be interesting to check out if you are in the area. 😊 Reply to this

I am bit of a quandry about where and when my next overseas trip will be. I have three possible trips in mind. One starting in Bangkok, heading north, through the Issan, Laos, Southern China, moving south through Vietnam then westwards through Cambodia back to Bangkok.

The second is starting at Istanbul and moving westward through eastern europe returning to Istanbul.

The third is once again starting at Istanbul but moving eastwards through Turkey, then southwards through Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel and finally ending somewhere up the Nile. Reply to this

I'm currently in Vietnam and visiting Angkor wat in 2 weeks' time. After this, no concrete plans although I would like to see Spain or India, never having visited either of those countries yet.

Mel - India should be fabulous! Have fun! Reply to this

I forgot to mention that I am going to Nurnberg, Germany tomorrow. There is a particularly beautiful Christmas market there. We go there every year for a day at the beginning of December, to hang out at it for the day. Reply to this

My next destination is Tasmania in my home country.

My next abroad destination would be Singapore, from where I'll travel overland all the way to Europe, via the trans-siberian railway. Reply to this
