Hi,
Please help an unplanned traveller! I'm going to Australia for the first time for three weeks in December. Does anybody have any suggestions for an itinary? I was thinking of heading North for three weeks and then flying back to Sydney to catch my flight home.
I was hoping to backpack mainly but don't mind splashing out for something special...

Hi Valentine,
Welcome to TravelBlog.
If it's possible to change your return flight to the following day, going down to Sydney harbour for New Year's eve would be worth it. If you do though, make sure you book accomodation for that night well ahead. Reply to this

Hi Tommy
I definitely back Valentines suggestion for New Year's eve in Sydney. It's actually worth it to be there between Christmas & New Year. They have the famous Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race on the 25th and there are plenty of other great actions going on during this time.
If you want to plan your trip, I just found a great new site at www.bepacked.com. It shows that they just opened so there is not much info yet, but their trip planner is great and sends information back to your folks at home while you're there. Have a look at my travelogue (still working on adding my diary entries) atGood luck and have fun, Australia is great!

How about making your way up to Brisbane on the bus and stopping at places on the way, Byron Bay is good, but from there you can get bus day trips to Nimbin (Definitely recommended by me). OR, you could soend a few days in Sydney then go straight up the coast to Hervey Bay, cause for me doing the Fraser Island thing was one of the best bits.

im an aussie. i would say if u wanna do a quick trip. pick an area nd stick to it. i.e. 10 days going from sydn moving down to brisb or a bit below is possible. good layed back, fun trip.
don´t forget to grab a pub lunch
catch the ferry across to the gap
have a swim
also consider a rent a car. a lot more fun and freedom Reply to this

New South Wales has many beaches. If you happen to go to NSW, pass by Singleton and you will surely enjoy your stay there

i did 3 weeks last year starting in Cairns and ending in Sydney, was busy fitting everything in i wanted to do but managed it.
Am going back again this year, just got my flight into Sydney 13th dec and leave 3 Jan, cant wait for the NYE celebrations, been dreaming about them for the past few years and always wanting to be there.
I land in Sydney, fly straight out to Alice Springs and do Ulura for a couple of days, then to Perth for just over a week then back to Sydney for the last few days.
